Brunswick - Agnes Marie (Oakes) Flynn, 99, a long-time resident of Brunswick, died peacefully surrounded by family on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at Samaritan Hospital, following a brief illness.

Born July 9, 1926, in Bennington, VT, Mrs. Flynn was the daughter of the late Kenneth Wallace Oakes and Elizabeth Agnes (Jordan) Oakes.  For over 70 years, she was the wife to Gerald W. Flynn of Brunswick.

Mrs. Flynn attended Bennington Schools throughout her youth, and graduated at the age of 16.  During her high school years, she worked after school at Woolworth and briefly at Cluett, Peabody and Company making window displays.  Agnes and Gerald reconnected after a childhood friendship, married a few years later, and moved to Harlingen Air Force Base in Texas.  While Gerald flew in numerous missions overseas during WWII, She stayed on base and worked as a cashier at the mess hall.  In October 1945, Gerald was honorably discharged from the military, and they both returned to Brunswick to start their family with the birth of their son, Gerald, in December 1945.

Upon returning home, Agnes started her career as an accountant at General Electric in Niskayuna, where she was employed for 32 years, before retiring at a young age to enjoy her family.

During her retirement, she enjoyed spending weekends at her lake house in Wells, VT.  The couple traveled across the country three times, and visited all the continental states.  Agnes loved organizing and planning trips all along the east coast for W.A.Y.S. (We Are Young Seniors) with their Brunswick friends.  She had a witty sense of humor and loved being with family more than anything.

In her down time, you could find Agnes teaching ceramics, baking, knitting, crocheting, and basically any craft she could get her hands on.  In her later years, she spent time doing crosswords, word search puzzles, playing solitaire, and of course, a 500-piece or larger puzzle was always out on the designated table.  She never sat still.

Agnes is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Gerald and Judy Flynn of Brunswick, a grandson, Michael Flynn (Sheila) of Brunswick, two granddaughters, Shayne Roberts (Michael) of Henderson, NC, and Colleen Cameron (John III) of Brunswick, four grandchildren, Dillon Flynn, Braden Roberts, Aiden Cameron, and John Cameron IV, a sister, Zane Tetreault of WA, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Ahe was predeceased by her husband, sisters, Marion and Kate, and brothers, Chucky and Bryan.

Relatives and friends are invited to call on Wednesday, November 5, from 3:00-6:00 p.m., at the Howard B. Tate and Son Funeral Home Inc., located at 2237 NY Route 7, in Raymertown.  A funeral service for Mrs. Flynn will be held on Thursday, November 6, at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home.  Burial will follow at 12:00 p.m. (noon) at the Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions, if desired, may be made to the Brunswick Cares Community Food Pantry at Brunswick Church, in memory of Agnes M. Flynn.
