BOYNTONVILLE, NY- Anthony J. “Tony” DiMaggio, 88, of Boyntonville, passed away May 30, 2026, with his loving family by his side.

Born April 9, 1938, in Schenectady, NY, Tony was the son of the late Anthony and Edna V. (Dutcher) DiMaggio.

When Tony was a baby, he and his parents moved from Schenectady to Rutland, VT, where his father owned an open-air market.  When Tony was 2, his father passed away from a heart attack, and his mother had to come back to her family home in Boyntonville where her parents lived.  When Tony was 8, his mother married Ira Eber Gifford, and they went to live on Eber’s farm in Groveside, NY, where he lived until he was 17 years old.  He loved reminiscing and telling stories from living and working on the farm, and his family loved hearing the numerous adventures and memories.

Tony attended the one-room school houses in Boyntonville (up to Grade 3) and Groveside (up to grade 7).  When the schools centralized and became the Hoosick Falls Central School District, he was entering the 8th grade, and he was automatically advanced to the 9th grade.  As a youth, Tony was a member of the former Boy Scout Troop 82 of Boyntonville.

Upon leaving high school, Tony joined the U.S. Navy.  He entered the Navy on August 19, 1955, first being stationed at South Weymouth, MA, and eventually proudly served on the USS Valley Forge.  He was honorably discharged on March 19, 1959.  For over 35 years, he worked at the former Nashua Corporation facility (also known as the Norton Company plant) in Watervliet, NY, beginning his employment on February 19, 1962.  He later worked at Quest Plumbing & Heating with the late Chris D’Angelo.  In his quiet time, he enjoyed reading the newspaper, watching history and nature channels, sharing his life stories with his family, and being outdoors.  He was a devoted Yankees fan and loved talking about past and current players alike.  Tony loved ice cream, and he often said he never met a cookie he didn’t like.

Tony was a member of the former Boyntonville Men’s Club and the former Boyntonville United Methodist Church.  He is an emeritus board member of the Warren Cemetery Association of Boyntonville.  He lovingly and faithfully maintained and cared for the cemetery for the majority of his life.  Tony’s experience and knowledge about the cemetery will be greatly missed.

Tony leaves behind his loving children, Tammy Daniels of East Greenbush, Scott DiMaggio of Haynersville, and Lisa (Michael) Bryk of Averill Park; a granddaughter, Rachel Bryk; three grandsons, Brian (Christine) Daniels, Adam Daniels, and Michael (Krystal) Bryk; great-granddaughter, Kendall Bryk, and great-grandsons, Asher Daniels and Michael Bryk; caring friend and mother of his children, Carol (Sluus) DiMaggio of Brunswick; a sister, Marie (Jerry) McAuliffe of Hoosick Falls; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.  In addition to his parents, Tony was predeceased by his sons, Jeffrey DiMaggio and Kylle DiMaggio; sisters, Lillian (Benjamin) Zareski and Angela (David) O’Brien; and, brothers, Terry (Madeline) DiMaggio and Arthur (Barbara) Gifford.

A funeral service for Tony will be held on Thursday, June 4 at 1:00 p.m., at the Howard B. Tate and Son Funeral Home Inc., 2237 NY Route 7, located in Raymertown, with Chaplain Cylon George officiating.  Burial with military honors will follow in Warren Cemetery in Boyntonville.  Relatives and friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Thursday from 11:00 a.m. prior to the service.  The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the oncology and radiology departments at the Albany VA and The Community Hospice for their compassionate care and support.  Memorial contributions, in lieu of flowers please, may be made to the Warren Cemetery Association, 112 Upper Mannix Road, East Greenbush, NY 12061, in memory of Anthony J. DiMaggio.
