Johnsonville- Barbara A. (Javorcak) Januska, 100 years young, died peacefully after a life well lived, in the comfort of her Baum Road home Monday, December 1, 2025, with her loving family by her side following a short illness.
Born October 16, 1925, in Volkovoje, Czechoslovakia, Barbara was the daughter of the late Stephan and Anna (Glagola) Javorcak and the wife, for over 63 years, of the late Miloslav “Milo” Januska, who predeceased her November 29, 2011. Barbara and Milo were married in Czechoslovakia on August 15, 1948.
Barbara attended school in her native Czechoslovakia and graduated from high school there. She immigrated to the United States with her husband and became a citizen 74 years ago on July 12, 1951.
A homemaker for many years, Barbara was a former resident of Shaftsbury and Bennington, VT, and Hoosick Falls before she and Milo purchased property in Johnsonville, where they established their home and farm in 1960. In addition to caring for her husband and home and raising her family, Barbara assisted her husband on the farm with many chores, especially the vegetable gardening. She was a wonderful cook, who never ate anything she didn’t grow herself, liked to read and sew, and loved to raise flowers in her gardens, and was partial to both red and pink roses.
Barbara was a communicant for over 74 years of the former St. Monica’s Roman Catholic Church in Johnsonville and, more recently, Transfiguration Church in Schaghticoke.
Barbara is survived by two sons and a daughter, Milo and Gemma Januska of Johnsonville and John Januska and Barbara Colling, both of North Carolina, a sister, Maria Banic of Ukraine, a sister-in-law, Miloslova Bradna of Prague, Czechoslovakia, eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to wear a splash of red in honor of Barbara’s love for roses and attend a Mass of Christian Resurrection celebrated for her at the Transfiguration Parish North in Schaghticoke on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. Weather permitting, burial will follow in Millertown Cemetery in Johnsonville. There will be no calling.
Memorial contributions, if desired, may be made to Transfiguration Parish, 17 South Main Street, Schaghticoke, New York 12154, or the Johnsonville Fire-Rescue and EMS Service, 5 River Road, Johnsonville, NY 12094, in memory of Barbara A. Januska.
