Schaghticoke- Bertha J. “Bert” (Hansen) Lattimore, 90, a longtime resident of Schaghticoke and, more recently, North Troy, died peacefully on Thursday, May 14, 2026, at Samaritan Hospital in Troy, with her family by her side following a short illness.

Born at the former Leonard Hospital in Troy on April 25, 1936, Bert (as she was known by her friends and family) was the daughter of the late Andrew and June (Armstrong) Hansen and, for over 52 years, the wife of John P. “Paulie” Lattimore, who predeceased her in 2008.

Bert attended Hoosic Valley High School.  Following their marriage on June 30, 1956, she and Paulie established the home that she enjoyed on Chestnut Street until relocating to North Troy in 2022.

For over 36 years, Bert was employed as a production worker at the Tek Hughes Company in Watervliet, where she enjoyed the work family and friends made there, until retiring in July 1998. After retirement, she worked part time for several more years at the Carlson Farm and ice cream stand, where she enjoyed the relationships and fun she had with many of the younger kids working there.

For Bert, besides Paulie and her home, the most important focus of her life was her church.  Bert was a member of the Presbyterian United Church of Schaghticoke for well over 75 years.  She served as a Sunday School teacher there and later, for over 25 years, as the Director of Christian Education.  She sang in the church choir, worked many church suppers and fund-raisers, and later, as a respected member of the church, was elected as a Church Elder, helping to oversee the ministry, growth, and financial health of the church.

Bert was also community minded.  She was a member and past vice president of the former Hoosic Valley Seniors group and, at one time, held the offices of president and vice president of the Speigle Elders, helping with many fund-raisers and senior trips that she and others enjoyed very much, and was also an active member of the club’s bowling team.  She belonged to the “Red Hat Society” of Schaghticoke and the former Hoosic Valley Homemakers Club, enjoyed quilting, diamond art, reading, and puzzles in her quiet time, and was fond of saying “Never sit still when you can be on the go!”

Bert is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, George R. and Beverly Hansen Sr. of Schaghticoke, a step-brother, Michael “Mike” Van Wert of Florida,  four nieces and their spouses, Deborah and David Carlo, Paula and Ken Spang, Karen and Bob Brandenstein, and Beverly and Neil Moore, a nephew and his wife, George R. and Melinda Hansen Jr., eight grand nieces and nephews, and twelve great grand nieces and nephews, all of whom she adored. Bert had many longtime special friends, namely Gerry Williams (spouse of the late Skeet Williams), Duane and Sally Williams and Libby Campbell. In addition to her parents and husband, Bert is predeceased by her brother, Arthur Andrew Hansen, and step brother, Ernest R. “Richie” Van Wert.

A funeral service for Bert will be held on Friday, May 22, 2026, at 12:15 p.m. at the Presbyterian United Church, Main Street, Schaghticoke, with her dear friend and pastor, Rev. Lynn Hardy officiating.  Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery, also in Schaghticoke.  Relatives and friends are invited to call at the church on Friday morning, from 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m., prior to the funeral service.

Bert’s family would welcome contributions in her memory be made to either the Presbyterian United Church of Schaghticoke, P.O. Box 148, Schaghticoke, NY 12154, or to Community Hospice of Rensselaer County, 295 Valley View Blvd., Rensselaer, NY 12144.

Funeral service arrangements are under the direction of the Howard B. Tate & Son Funeral Home Inc., 2237 NY Route 7, located in Raymertown, NY, (518) 663-8210.
