Troy- Debra E. (Miller) Holbrook, 73, of Johnsonville, passed away peacefully Monday, November 24, 2025 following a short illness with her family by her side.
Born in Troy, September 3, 1952, Debra was the daughter of the late Charles W. and Glenna (Reese) Miller and for over 38 years the devoted wife of the late Newton D. Holbook IV who predeceased her June 21, 2020.
Debra was a graduate of Troy High School, Class of 1970, and the Albany Medical Center School of Nursing, earning both a Bachelor’s Degree and RN Degree in 1973.
After her marriage to Newton at the Methodist Farm Chapel on July 11, 1981, Debra moved to Connecticut to establish a home with Newton & her son, Brent. She was employed by the State of Connecticut, Department of Developmental Disabilities Office for over 25 years. After returning New York in 2005, she was employed as the School Nurse at Tamarac High School in Brittonkill. After eight years of service, she retired in 2015.
Debra was a very active member of the Pittstown United Methodist Church and a benefactor of the Victor Lodge # 680 in Schaghticoke where her late husband was a member and held various positions. She assisted at many dinners and fund raisers to support both her Church and his Lodge, to the benefit of the community and in honor of her late husband. She enjoyed traveling West of the Mississippi with Newton and especially loved their annual family summer trips to Martha's Vineyard. Among her pastimes, she particularly liked to read and loved spending time with her cat, Zoey & her parakeets. Debra also loved sitting on her deck on a beautiful day and watch the many hummingbirds that called at her feeders.
Debra is survived by her sons, Brent Holbrook and his wife, Brandi of Johnsonville, and Donald Holbrook of Avon, CT, seven grandchildren and great-grandchildren, a brother, Mark Miller of Ilion, and nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Relatives and friends are invited to call on Saturday, December 6, 2025 at the Pittstown United Methodist Church, 57 Old Route 7, located in Pittstown from 10:00-11:20 AM. A memorial service for Debra will be held at the Church beginning at 11:30 AM, officiated by Rev. Jim Knapp, pastor. A reception with light luncheon will follow the service at the Church Fellowship Hall. Burial at later date and time will take place in Torrington, CT at the convenience of the family.
