Johnsonville- Joan Marie (Madigan) Koch, 92, a lifelong resident of Tomhannock and Johnsonville, died peacefully Friday, December 19, 2025, at the Centers for Living and Rehabilitation in Bennington, VT, following a short illness.
         
Born in Troy, June 25, 1933, Joan was the daughter of the late Lawrence B. and Phoebe (Galloway) Madigan and, for over 68 years, the wife and best friend of Max D. Koch of Johnsonville, who survives.  Joan and Max were married October 19, 1957.
         
After graduating from Catholic Central High School in Troy, Class of 1952, Joan enlisted in the United States Navy on November 12, 1952.  Upon completing basic training, Joan was stationed at the Astoria, Oregon Naval Station, and later the USNH-St. Albans, NY where, she earned the rank of TE3 and served until being honorably discharged on November 9, 1956.
         
In addition to establishing a home, raising her children, and helping Max with light chores around the family farm, Joan was employed as an accountant at the NYS Research Foundation for Mental Hygiene Services in Albany.  After more than 20 years of service, she retired in 1993.
         
Joan was very active in the community as a communicant of Transfiguration Parish, a member of the Johnsonville Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary, the Johnsonville Ambulance Service, the Schaghticoke American Legion Post #731, the New England Cryptology Group, the New York Trotters Club, the Caring Trail Camping Club, the Senior Citizens Knitting Club, the Voice of Vets and Veterans Hall at the Schaghticoke Fairground, and the Women In Military Service for America Memorial Foundation, Inc., in Washington DC.
         
In addition to her husband, Max, Joan is survived by a daughter and two sons-in-law, Susan and Jean-Robert Adhemar of Johnsonville and John Morrissey of Malta, three grandchildren, Heidi and Frank Pascarella of Johnsonville, Brian and Adrienne Peterson of Johnsonville, and Ashley (Gary Brust) Morrissey of Johnsonville, two great-grandchildren, Gwendolyn Pascarella and Audrey Peterson, and several nieces and nephews.  In addition to her parents, Joan was predeceased by a daughter, Karen Morrissey, a brother, Glenn Madigan Sr., two sisters, Carol Brackley and Donna Cook, and a great grandson, Frank Pascarella II.
         
Relatives and friends are invited to gather on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, from 9:00 – 9:45 a.m. at Transfiguration Parish North, 17 South Main Street, in Schaghticoke.  A Mass of Christian Resurrection for Joan will be celebrated by Fr. Ed Kacerquis at 10:00 a.m.  Inurnment with U.S. Naval honors will take place at Gerald B. H. Solomon, Saratoga National Veterans Cemetery at 12:30 p.m. A reception for family and friends will follow at the Johnsonville Fire House, 5 River Road, in Johnsonville.
         
​Memorial contributions, if desired, may be made to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation in memory of both Joan M. Koch and her daughter, Karen Morrissey.
