Brunswick- Kenneth “Jason” Herrington, “The Flyin’ Farmer,” 52, a lifelong Brunswick resident, dairy farmer, racecar driver/owner, and agri-business entrepreneur, died suddenly Friday, March 14, 2025, after being stricken at his Brunswick home.
Jason was born in Troy August 16, 1972, and was the son of Kenneth H. and the late Roberte (Fournel) Herrington, the devoted father of Alexa Herrington, big brother to Jessica Herrington, and for several years, the best friend and fiance' of Anissa Anuszewski, all of Brunswick.
Jason was a graduate of Tamarac High School and attended Hudson Valley Community College.
For many years, beginning in his childhood, Jason assisted on the family’s Herrington Farms, working with the animals, crops, and machinery, learning respect and a work ethic that he would carry and benefit from all his life. Throughout his time on the farm, his responsibilities continued to grow, and he expanded the scope and modernization of the farm, including the selling of landscape materials; composted top soil, mulch and gravel.
Jason’s love of racing began at an early age, when he raced modified go karts at several area tracks with his father. In the late 1980’s and 90’s, he moved up in class, building and driving 358 modified stock cars at Lebanon Valley and Malta’s dirt and asphalt tracks. In 2009 and 2011 he won the track championship in the sportsman class of racecars at Lebanon Valley. Most recently he moved on to owning, building, and driving racecars in the ASA national racing circuit. Through various racing circuits in which he competed, Jason made many friends along the way, due to his easy-going demeaner, respect of others, and his competitive drive. Among the racing community, he was affectionately known as and campaigned as the “Flyin’ Farmer.” Among the most important friendships he made at the track, was that of a pretty member of a neighboring pit crew one night in 2018. It was then and there he met his best friend and partner, Anissa Anuszewski, with whom he enjoyed traveling, going to the racetrack, and spending time on the beautiful family farm.
Jason enjoyed traveling, especially to Sebastian, Florida, and seeing friends at his favorite watering hole. He valued his time spent in the racecar garage with friends, but most precious was time spent with his daughter, Alexa.
In addition to his father, Ken (Alice), his daughter, Alexa, sisters, Jessica (JR), Millie (Danny) Knatcal and best friend, Anissa, Jason is survived by a niece, Jaidy Hernadez, and a nephew, Liam McKee, his uncle and aunts, Phil and Cathy Herrington, Elaine Herrington, several cousins, his farm family, and many, many friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to call and greet Jason’s family on Thursday, March 20, 2025, at Hope United Methodist Church, located at 566 Brunswick Road (NY Route 2), from 3:00-7:00 p.m. A funeral service with Rev. Dave Martin and Rev Edward Harkins officiating and burial at Eagle Mills Cemetery will be held privately at the convenience of the family.
Memorial contributions, in lieu of flowers, may be made to the Volunteer Fire Company of Center Brunswick, 1045 Hoosick Road, Troy, NY 12180 or to your local fire company, in memory of Jason Herrington.
