Hoosick Falls- Louise C. (Shriner) Slingerland, 83, a longtime resident of Anders Road (Town of Pittstown) died peacefully Sunday, June 23, 2024, at The Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation at Hoosick Falls with her loving family by her side following a short illness.
For many years she was the devoted and loving wife of the late Harold Slingerland, who predeceased her in 1989.
Louise was raised in Troy and attended Troy City Schools.
For over 20 years, she was employed as an aide at Albany Medical Center and later, for an additional 20 years, as a production and machine operator at the General Electric Company’s former Waterford plant. Additionally, she worked with her late husband on the Slingerland Family Dairy farm in East Pittstown, assisting with many of the farm chores, from feeding and milking cows to driving tractors and helping with the hay and corn production.
Louise was a member of the Johnsonville Grange and enjoyed horseback riding in the summer and snowmobiling with Harold and her friends in the winter.
Louise is survived by two nephews and their spouses, Francis “Frank” and Bridget Slingerland of Burnt Hills and Michael and Jean Slingerland of Hoosick Falls, and many special friends, including Doug Marpe, Katie Hogan, Lisa Marpe, Kathy Shufelt, as well as Doyle and Betty Clum.
A funeral service for Louise will be held on Thursday, June 27, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at the Howard B. Tate & Son Funeral Home Inc., 2237 New York Route 7, located in Raymertown. Burial will follow in the East Pittstown Methodist Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Thursday, from 10:00–11:00 a.m. prior to the funeral service.
At the request of the family, memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to the Pittstown Volunteer Emergency Corps., 60 Parker School Road, Johnsonville, NY 12094, in memory of Louise C. Slingerland.
