Ronald A. Morello, Jr.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ronald A. Morello Jr., a beloved husband, father, son, brother, coach, teammate, and friend. Ron passed away on June 22, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family, leaving behind a legacy of strength, laughter, and unwavering devotion to those he loved.
Ron is survived by his wife of 36 years, Colleen (Thomas) Morello; his sons, Ronald Morello III and his spouse, Chaley, and Jared Morello and his spouse, Sommer; his mother, Maria (Mazur) Morello; his sister, Cindy Blais and her husband, Tom; and his brother, Anthony Morello; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family, and lifelong friends. He was predeceased by his father, Ronald A. Morello Sr.
Born on June 28, 1965, in Lockport, New York, Ron was a proud Lockport native, graduated from Lockport High School and an avid, lifelong Buffalo Bills football and Buffalo Sabres hockey fan. A gifted athlete, he excelled in three sports and helped cement his place in Lockport sports history. In 1982, he was part of Lockport’s undefeated football team, a season he proudly reminded everyone of, including kicking at Rich Stadium. That same year, he captured a New York State Championship in hockey and was remembered as part of one of the most dominant lines in Lockport H.S. hockey history. In recognition of his incredible athletic achievements, Ron was inducted into the Lockport Hockey Hall of Fame in 2023.
His love for hockey never faded. Ron played in the Capital District Men’s Hockey League for over 30 years, building lifelong friendships and earning a reputation as both a fierce competitor and loyal teammate.
Beyond the rink, Ron dedicated countless years to coaching, sharing his love of sports with the next generation. He coached for the Hoosic Valley Athletic Association, from T-ball through travel baseball, proudly guiding his two sons along the way. He also coached with the Capital District and Troy Athletic Hockey Associations, helping players grow from their very first strides in Learn to Skate all the way through to 18U hockey.
Ron was a mason by trade and craftsman by nature, spending over 30 years with Centanni Masonry. He was known as a builder, a fixer, and someone who could repair almost anything – whether it was made of stone, wood, or simply needed the steady hands of someone who cared. Most recently, Ron worked at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute as a repairman.
At home, Ron found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He loved cooking and sharing meals with family and friends. He was always happiest when feeding the people he loved. He took great pride in working on his backyard, creating a wiffleball field, and creating a space that reflected his hard work and care. He also found comfort in the companionship of his beloved cat and best friend, Izzzy.
To know Ron was to know a man larger than life, known by many names over the years – Jr., 9 Beer, Medium, Sunshine, Flintstone, Dirty, Guy, Chico, and Uncle F-ing Ron. Each name reflected a different part of the man so many knew and loved: hardworking, hilarious, stubborn, loyal, and unforgettable in his own way.
Ron’s impact on his family, his teammates, his players, and his community will live on forever. His stories, his lessons, and his laughter will echo through the lives of everyone lucky enough to have known him.
A funeral service for Ron will be held on Thursday, June 25, 2026, at 7:15 p.m. at the Howard B. Tate and Son Funeral Home Inc., 2237 NY Route 7, located in Raymertown. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the funeral home from 4:00-7:00 p.m., prior to the funeral service. Burial will be private at the convenience of the Morello family.
