Port Jefferson, NY - It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Ronald “Ron” H. Bakerian, of Melrose, who passed away on Thursday, December 5, 2024, at the age of 63 years.
Born in Troy, July 16, 1961, Ron was the son of the late Alice M. (Fribourg) Bakerian and Levon “Leo” Bakerian and brother to younger sister Nancy L. (Bakerian) Haggett.
Ron graduated from Catholic Central High School in Troy in 1979 and began studying at Kings College in 1980 before completing his B.S. in Biology and Chemistry at the University of Albany in 1984. Ron began his career working as a budding scientist in Richard Cunningham’s Lab at the University of Albany, studying DNA repair before ultimately transitioning to a career as a software engineer. During his career, he worked on everything from 3D modeling, teleconferencing, video game design, seismology, nuclear physics, and most recently, the development of hydrogen fuel cell systems.
Ron was a loving and exceptional father, devoted son, loving brother, partner, and friend to all. He was a warm and caring person, who was quick to make others laugh and give a hand to anyone in need. He loved fishing and canoe camping with his daughter in the Adirondacks, making happy memories with his partner and her family in Long Island, playing bagpipes with his friends and bandmates, sharing the art of blacksmithing, as well as serving on the board at Salem Art Works, and creating merriment and laughter with his fellow citizens of Norseland. Ron was a one-of-a-kind fellow, who also loved the art of woodworking, gardening, wildcrafting, tinkering, and enjoying time in nature on his farm on Piser Hill Rd.
Ron is survived by his daughter, Rachel E. Bakerian of Queensbury, his sister and brother-in-law, Nancy L. and Michael Haggett of Woonsocket, Rhode Island, and his niece, Ariane Haggett of Woonsocket, Rhode Island, his loving partner, Jacqueline Taylor of East Setauket, NY, and Rachel’s mother, Ruth E. Stone of Plattsburgh.
Relatives and friends are invited to call on Friday, December 13, from 12:00-3:00 p.m. at the Howard B. Tate and Son Funeral Home Inc., 2237 Route 7, located in Raymertown.
