Brunswick- William Joseph “Bill” Casey, 63, a lifelong resident of Brunswick, died peacefully Thursday, August 29, 2024, in the comfort of his home with the love of his life, Tina, by his side, following a private and incredibly brave battle with cancer.
Born in Troy, September 24, 1960, Bill was the son of the late Sayles C. and Marietta (Talarico) Casey Sr. and, for over 41 years, the husband and best friend of Tina (James) Casey. Bill and Tina were married on December 31, 1982.
After attending Tamarac High School, Bill enlisted in the United States Army. After serving two years as a equipment mechanic, he was honorably discharged in 1981.
For 22 years, Bill was employed in the transportation department by the Cambridge Central Schol District. He enjoyed his time working in the department, where he met with vendors, made many longtime friends, and loved spending time with his work family. Bill’s easygoing, fun loving attitude and ability to do almost anything, drew people to him and helped create an environment that made the workday more enjoyable than it otherwise would be. His dedication and hard work earned him the position of Transportation Supervisor. He retired in April 2024.
Bill recently rediscovered his faith in God. He attended the Grafton Mountain Chapel and tried his best to quietly let people know that just like for him, it is never too late to lean on and share the love of God with family and friends.
Bill had many hobbies and enjoyed sharing his knowledge with anyone who could survive his teaching skills. He loved to work on anything with a motor and was very proud to have built and drive a dirt track race car, the “RU21,” as a tribute to his late father. He loved his family’s tribute to him by naming the snack bar named after him at Boondocks Moto, the moto-cross facility owned by his daughter and son -in-law, and camping and working outdoors to enjoy nature. Bill had a great sense of humor and a personality that would fill the room he occupied no matter the size. Among all his pastimes, his most favorite was playing with his grandchildren and spending time with his children, family, and friends, especially the quiet times sitting on the back patio he built for Tina and watching the hummingbirds with her.
In addition to Tina, Bill is survived by his children, Kristie and Christopher Halse, Phillip Casey and Nicole Branagan, and Kayla and Timothy Bleau, his adored grandchildren, Cheyanne Knorowski, Xzavier Halse, Stella-Lee Halse, Maverick Halse, Knox Halse, Jessie-Mae Casey, Gavin Casey, Madison Casey, Kaylee Bleau, and Shelby Bleau, his sisters and brothers, Gloria, Sayles Jr., Mary Sue, Patricia, Janice, Marguerite, Frances, and Nicholas, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Relatives and friends are invited to call and greet Bill’s family on Friday, September 6, 2024, from 3:00-6:00 p.m., at one of his most favorite spots-- Boondock’s Moto, 1780 Tamarac Road, Johnsonville, NY 12094. A memorial service will follow at 6:15 p.m. All guests are invited to come dressed in comfortable casual (jeans and sweatshirts) and wear something navy blue (his favorite color) in honor of Bill. Burial will take place privately at the convenience of the family.
At the request of Bill’s family, and because he didn’t like flowers, memorial contributions, if desired, may be made to either the Dartmouth Cancer Center of Bennington, 140 Hospital Drive, Bennington, VT 05201, where Bill was a patient for seven years, or Community Hospice, who also provided Bill with excellent care.
