Eagle Mills- Alice L. “Scoop” (Houser) Rogers, a lifelong resident of Eagle Mills, died peacefully, Friday, October 21, 2022, in the comfort of her home, with her loving family by her side.
Born in Troy, August 29, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Mary (Claren) Houser and, for many years, the devoted wife of the late Arbie K. “Toot” Rogers, who predeceased her on May 5, 2011.
Alice and Arbie were married on November 27, 1955.
As a young girl, Alice walked to school with her brothers and sisters when she attended the Garfield School in Eagle Mills and later attended Troy School #14.
After her marriage to Arbie, she became a homemaker in their hillside home, along the banks of the Poestenkill Creek. There she raised her family and cared for her husband and home. She enjoyed cooking and was well known for her baked beans, Christmas cookies, doughnuts, and Yum-Yum cake. She enjoyed listening to Elvis Presley’s music and growing flowers in her garden. As her children grew, she took a part-time job as a clerk at the Eagle Mills General Store, known locally as Mac’s. It was there she earned the nickname “Scoop,” as customers would stop by and tell her all the news and gossip from around town, which she, in turn, would share with her neighbors. Among her most favorite pastime was spending time with Arbie, her family and friends, and especially her grandchildren.
Alice is survived by her children, Catie and Tim Hoodack, Doug and Nancy Rogers, Cheryl Rogers, and Rodney and Katherine Rogers, all of Eagle Mills, her grandchildren, Michael D. Rogers and Samantha Hird, and Amy Rogers and Evan Figiel, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by 13 brothers and sisters.
Relatives and friends are invited to call on Monday, October 24, 2022 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at the Howard B. Tate & Son Funeral Home Inc., 2237 New York Route 7, located in Raymertown. A funeral service for Alice will be held on Tuesday, October 25, 2022, at 10:00 A.M. at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Eagle Mills Cemetery in Brunswick.
As a special way to say thank you for their excellent care and support, Alice’s family has asked that memorial contributions, if desired, may be made to Community Hospice, 315 S. Manning Blvd., Albany, NY 12208, in memory of Alice L. Rogers.
