Brunswick- Ann T. (Rifenburg) Smith, 83, a longtime resident of Brunswick, died peacefully Wednesday, January 30, 2019.
Born in Deposit, NY, May 22, 1935, Ann was the daughter of the late Alvah B. and Anna (Ziegler) Rifenburg and for over 63 years the beloved wife of William H. “Bill” Smith Sr. of Brunswick who survives. Ann and Bill were married May 22, 1955 on her 20th birthday
Ann attended the Brunswick District School #12 located at Camel Hill Road and was a graduate of Troy High School.
After raising her family she was employed for over 15 years as a Medical Secretary and Receptionist in the Troy office of Dr. Phillip Brendese. She retired in the early 1990’s.
Ann was a devoted communicant of Our Lady of Victory Church in Sycaway and served on the church altar guild. In addition she was a Life Member of the Center Brunswick Volunteer Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary, having held the posts of President, Vice President and Treasurer, a board and cast member of the Highlight Acting Troupe and the Brunswick seniors group where she also served in several administrative posts.
Ann had a beautiful smile and contagious laugh. She loved to dance and would be on the dance floor from the first note the band or D.J. played to the last. She was an avid reader and enjoyed riding with her husband on their motorcycle.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Allison and Mark Casey of Ipswich, MA and William H. and Susan Smith Jr. of Boston, MA, a sister and brother-in-law, Joan and John “Jack” Crook of Brunswick, three granddaughters, Valerie McCormack, Siobhan Murphy and Shelby Jennings, 6 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and her beloved dog, “Pia.”
A Mass of Christian Resurrection will be celebrated by Fr. Randall Patterson on Tuesday, February 5, 2019 at 9:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Victory Church in Sycaway . Burial will follow in Eagle Mills Cemetery in Brunswick. Family and friends are invited to call at the Howard B. Tate & Son Funeral Home Inc., 2237 NY Route 7, located in Raymertown on Monday from 4-7:00 p.m.
