Brunswick - Barbara J. (Haley) Barry, 84, of Brunswick, died peacefully, Thursday, January 4, 2024, at her residence with her family by her side, following a brief illness.
Born in Troy on May 5, 1939, raised in Boyntonville, Barbara was the youngest daughter of the late James and Beulah (Sheffer) Haley.
As a young girl, she walked with her older brothers and sister to attend the former Boyntonville District School and later graduated from Lansingburgh High School.
In addition to raising her family and caring for her home, Barbara was employed in the New York State Civil Service for 31 years, culminating with 15 years in the Troy Police Department as an Evidence and Property Control Clerk. In 1985 she received the Rotary Public Service Award. She retired in 1998.
Barbara was a communicant of Our Lady of Victory Church in Troy and a member of the Sycaway Seniors, where she served as Recording Secretary for a several years.
In earlier years, she enjoyed golfing with her sister and walking for exercise on the track at RPI. In her quiet time, she enjoyed bingo with her dear friends at The Rouse, watching car shows, and doing puzzles.
Barbara is survived by her children, Kathleen Sanford (Marc) of Clifton Park, NY; John Barry (Randee) of Maumee, Ohio; Daniel Barry of Nassau, NY; and Susan Avalos (John) of Ashburn, Virginia; a brother, Philip Haley of Fairport, NY, a brother-in law, Matthew “Jim” Roarke Jr. of Brunswick, NY, six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, James Haley, and a sister, Patricia “Pat’ Roarke.
A Mass of Christian Resurrection for Barbara will be celebrated Friday, January 12, 2024, at noon (12:00 p.m.) at Our Lady of Victory Church in Sycaway. Relatives and friends are invited to gather prior to the service at the church from 11:00 -11:45 a.m. A private graveside service will be held in Warren Cemetery in Boyntonville at the convenience of the family.
