Eagle Mills- Barbara V. (Baker) Rexford, 70, of Eagle Mills, passed away peacefully February 28, 2024, at Samaritan Hospital in Troy following a short illness with her loving husband and family by her side.
Born in Troy, April 14, 1953, Barbara, who was more affectionately known to her family and friends as “B” or “Barbie,” was the daughter of the late George R. and Florence M. (Schmidt) Baker and, for over 48 years, the wife of Robert J. “Bob” Rexford of Eagle Mills, who survives. Barbara and Bob were married on October 4, 1975.
Barbara, who is remembered by her family for having a zest for life and her way of finding beauty in everything around her, was a graduate of Tamarac High School, Class of 1971.
Barbara loved and was loved fiercely by her family, was quick to laugh, and was always generous to those around her. After high school, she took a position as a clerk for the phone company now known as Verizon, working in the Menands office and retired after 35 years of service. In retirement, she loved to travel with Bob to Ogunquit Beach in Maine and Sylvan Beach in Verona, NY. During the summer, you could often find her out enjoying an ice cream or dancing and singing along at local concerts. However, she loved the fall and winter seasons most and enjoyed visiting Ridin’ Hy and Jiminy Peak. Although she did not ski, she could be found drinking hot chocolate by the fire. Barbara enjoyed visiting with her family and friends. She was an animal lover and looked forward to spending time with her dogs, Sam and Randi, and her niece’s dogs, especially her favorite, Lyla-Belle.
She was a faithful, active member of Poestenkill Christian Church – Disciples of Christ, where she served as a Deacon and former Chairperson of the Church Board, a member of the Grafton Seniors, and a trustee of the Poestenkill Hillside Cemetery.
In addition to her husband, Bob, Barbara is survived by a brother, Donald Baker of Granite Falls, NC, and a sister and brother-in-law, Betty Jean and Perry Kaufmann of Brunswick, and was the proud and beloved aunt of Kevin Baker of Statesville, NC, Diana (Baker) and Dustyn Bucher of Troutman, NC, Nicolle (Kaufmann) and Brian Beaury II of Brunswick, and Jason Kaufmann of San Diego, CA, and several great nieces and nephews.
A funeral service for Barbara will be held on Tuesday, March 5, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at the Howard B. Tate & Son Funeral Home Inc., 2237 New York Route 7, located in Raymertown, with Rev. John Roberts officiating. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery in Poestenkill. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the funeral home from 10:30 a.m.-12:45 p.m. prior to the service.
