Grafton - Betsy G. (Hakes) Brenenstuhl, 89, a lifelong resident of Brunswick and Cropseyville, died peacefully, Easter Sunday, March 31, 2024 at the Loving Home at Fredericks in Glenville following a short illness.
Born in Brunswick December 3, 1934, Betsy was the daughter of the late Leslie B. and Marion L. (Rifenburg) Hakes and for over 40 years the loving wife of the late Robert W. Brenenstuhl who predeceased her 27 years ago on March 31, 1997.
As a young girl Betsy attended the local district school and was a graduate of Troy High School.
For over thirty-three years she was employed as a rural mail carrier by the United States Postal Service working from the Cropseyville Post Office. She retired in 1989.
Betsy was a member of the Grafton United Methodist Church and more recently, Hope United Methodist Church in Eagle Mills. She was also a member of the Carner, Etman, Smith VFW Post Ladies Auxiliary.
Among her favorite pastimes were the many camping trips with family to Myrtle Beach, SC and Pigeon Forge, TN. She especially enjoyed a trip to Detroit, Michigan for Ford’s 100th Anniversary. Betsy also loved hosting family picnics and get-togethers.
Betsy is survived by her three children and their spouses, Roberta (Robert) Hayward of Ballston Lake, Beth (Bryan) Myers of Grafton, and Warren Brenenstuhl of Grafton, her grandson, Daniel (Stephanie) Hayward of Saratoga Springs and great grandchildren (her “little ones”) Cameron and Katelynn Hayward. She is also survived by sisters-in-law Doris Wolfe and Linda (Michael Lucci) Krieger and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Shirley Wheeler.
A funeral service for Betsy will be held on Sunday, April 7, 2024 at 4:00 p.m. at the Howard B. Tate & Son Funeral Home Inc., 2237 New York Route 7, located in Raymertown. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Sunday from 2:00-4:00 p.m. prior to the service. A committal service will be held on Monday, April 8, at 10:00 am at Eagle Mills Cemetery in Brunswick.
