Betty M. Herrington, age 91, passed away peacefully at home, on Saturday evening, August 8th, 2015. She was born Betty Marie Salladin on March 26, 1924, living most of her childhood in Pittsford, VT and Potter Hill, NY.
The daughter of Addison and L. Emeroy (Weir) Salladin, she graduated from Hoosick Falls High School at age 16, attended Mildred Elley Business School and worked as a bookkeeper for several Troy area firms over four decades.
Betty was the wife of Joseph M. Weiss, Sr. from 1942 until his death in 1975. She was married to Roy F. Herrington from 1987 until his death in 2009. She resided in Troy, Pittstown and Johnsonville, NY for most of her adult life. For the last five years she resided at 10 Wilmington Place, in Dayton, OH, where she received assistance from the staff as well as numerous outings, family gatherings and daily personal care, lovingly provided by her daughter Barbara Richard and son-in-law Lawrence Pleiman.
In her younger days, Betty played the piano, church organ and accordion. She enjoyed bowling, photography, music and flowers, and took up painting in her sixties, with covered bridges and birds among her subjects.
She is survived by all six of her children; Nancy Newton of Gardiner, Maine, Barbara Richard (Lawrence Pleiman) of West Carrollton, OH, Joseph Weiss of New York City, Edward Weiss (Nina) of Spring Hill, FL, Robert Weiss and Ann Weiss of Watervliet, NY, as well as six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 15, 2015 at 10:00 A.M. at the Howard B. Tate and Son Funeral Home Inc., 2237 New York Route 7, located in Raymertown. Burial will follow at Millertown Cemetery in Pittstown. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Friday, August 14th from 4:00-7:00 P.M.
