Brunswick- Carol F. (Boomhower) Gibbs, 84, a lifelong resident of Brunswick and Pittstown, died peacefully Thursday, July 27, 2023, at her residence following a brief illness.
Born June 7, 1939, in Troy, Carol was the daughter of the late Ralph and Frances (Bott) Boomhower, the wife for 25 years of the late Robert P. Gibbs, who predeceased her in 1984, and for 30 years the partner and best friend of “her honey”, Nicola “Nick” Capabianco, who predeceased her in 2022.
Carol attended the Cropseyville District School and graduated from Lansingburgh High School.
For many years, Carol was employed as a secretary, working within the NYS Department of Alcohol and Substance Abuse in Albany. Additionally, she worked part time for many years as a secretary for the Medical Society in Troy at the former St. Mary’s Hospital. She retired in 2001.
Carol was a lifelong member of Gilead Lutheran Church in Brunswick and was active with the Gilead Belles in hosting many gatherings and dinners at the church. She was an excellent gardener and enjoyed growing both flowers and vegetables. Her most favorite pastimes as of late were traveling to Maine with Nick, spending time shopping for herself, family, and friends, and she was an avid NY Yankees fan.
Carol is survived by her daughter, Amy L. Blair of Berlin, her son and daughter-in-law, Jeffrey R. and Kathleen Gibbs of Delmar, three grandchildren, Hollyn Blair, Michael Blair Jr., and Noah Blair, all of Brunswick, several nieces and nephews, and her beloved housecat. In addition to her parents, husband, and her honey, Nick, she was predeceased by her brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Ginny Boomhower.
A funeral service for Carol will be held on Monday, July 31, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. at the Howard B. Tate & Son Funeral Home Inc., 2237 NY Route 7, located in Raymertown, with Rev. Jeff Silvernail officiating. Burial will follow at Eagle Mills Cemetery in Brunswick. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Monday from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., prior to the service.
