Cropseyville- Carolyn (Bonesteel) Boomhower, 102 years young and a lifelong resident of Cropseyville, died peacefully, Friday, April 14, 2017 at her Dunham Road residence following a short illness.
Born in Grafton April 10, 1915, Mrs. Boomhower was one of six children born to the late Peter and Francis (Dorscht) Bonesteel and for over 50 years was the wife of the late Donald C. Boomhower.
Mrs. Boomhower was educated in a Cropseyville District School and as a young woman prior to her marriage assisted her father on the family farm.
Throughout her adult life, Mrs. Boomhower was a homemaker and enjoyed caring for her home and children but her true love was working out of doors on the farm and with the farm animals, especially the horses. More recently, in her quiet time she enjoyed working her flower and vegetable gardens and spending time with her family and friends.
For most of her life Mrs. Boomhower was an avid horseback rider and was a Charter Member of the Grafton Trial Riders Club.
She is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Donna Walker and Claudia and Mike Gilbert, all of Cropseyville, two daughters-in-law, Shirley Boomhower of Petersburgh and Isabelle Boomhower of Cropseyville, nineteen grandchildren, many great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by two sons, Carl Boomhower and Gary Boomhower and her brothers and sisters, the late Margaret Bonesteel, Chauncey “Bub” Bonesteel, Gertrude “Betty” Beaudry, Raymond “Let” Bonesteel and Francis “Teeny” Corbin.
A memorial service for Mrs. Boomhower will be held on Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at 7:15 P.M. at the Howard B. Tate & Son Funeral Home Inc., 2237 New York Route 7, located in Raymertown. Friends and relatives are invited to call at the funeral home on Tuesday, from 5:00 -7:00 P.M. prior to the memorial service. Family and friends are also invited to gather for her burial service on Saturday, May 13, 2017 at 10:00 A.M. at the Eagle Mills Cemetery in Brunswick.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to the Mohawk and Hudson Humane Society, 3 Oakland Avenue, Menands, NY 12204 in memory of Carolyn Boomhower.
