Raymertown- Christine E. (Snyder) Brown, a longtime resident of Raymertown, died peacefully Saturday, November 22, 2014, at Van Rensselaer Manor, following a long illness.
Born in Troy, May 22, 1930, Mrs. Brown was the daughter of the late Charles W. and Pauline H. (Schlegel) Snyder and the former wife of the late William F. Brown of Cropseyville who preceded her in death in 2001.
Mrs. Brown grew up in Eagle Mills, attended the Garfield School through eighth grade, and was a graduate of Troy High School and the former Troy Business College. After college, she was employed at Behr-Manning (Norton Co.) and the former Hamilton Standard Company in Connecticut, a manufacturer of aircraft propellers and parts. Christine spent many years as a stay-at-home mom before returning back to work in the mid 1970’s, where she worked for the R.J. Carrignan Insurance Agency, the Muscular Dystrophy Association, Matton Shipyard, and Liberty Mutual Insurance Company. Mrs. Brown retired in 2001.
As a young mother, Mrs. Brown was a member of the Eastern District of Home Bureau, sold Beauty Counselor Cosmetics, and enjoyed sewing and knitting. Later in life, she helped out with the planning and organization of several of her high school class reunions. She was an avid reader, loved the outdoors, dancing, and was especially fond of her beloved cats.
Mrs. Brown is survived by two sons, Timothy W. Brown of Raymertown and Gregory L. Brown of Fultonville; two daughters, Pamela B. Malhotra of St. Petersburg, FL and Kimberly K. Sminkey of Raleigh, NC; six grandchildren, Sarah, Seth, Max, Alex, Eva and Lydia; and a brother, Charles W. Snyder Jr. of Falmouth, MA.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 30, 2015, at 12:15 P.M. at the Howard B. Tate & Son Funeral Home Inc., 2237 NY-7, located in Raymertown, with Rev. Gaylord Campbell, officiating. Inurnment will follow in the Berlin Baptist Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m., prior to the service.
At the request of the family, memorial contributions, in lieu of flowers, may be made to the Whiskers Animal Benevolent League, PO Box 11190, Albany, NY 12211 in memory of Christine S. Brown.
