Daniel Dunham Johnston, born on April 1, 1938, in Troy, NY, to the late Thomas and Ruth Johnston, left this world on February 2, 2024, at the age of 85. He was the beloved husband of Leslie, and together they shared 23 years of love and companionship.
Daniel was preceded in death by his late brother, Thomas Johnston. He is survived by his sister Jill Johnson, sister-in-laws Signa Metivier Donna (Johnston) Brown, Mary (Doug) Losee, Denise (Mike) Goethals and brother-in-law David (Tracy) Metivier. He leaves behind a legacy carried , on by his nieces and nephews Amy (Derek) Vogt, Tim Johnston, Cory (Melissa) Johnson, Kelsey (Tavin) Metivier Holman, Tayler Losee, Danielle Metivier, Bredan Goethals, Ryan Goethals, and great-nieces Ainsley Vogt, Heidi Vogt, Madison Johnson, and Bailey Johnson.
Daniel spent his formative years on the family farm, Clums Corners, in New York. He had a deep appreciation for his roots and cherished the memories created in the embrace of family and friends. His favorite holiday was Thanksgiving, where he found joy in gathering with loved ones and watching football, creating cherished moments that will be forever etched in the hearts of those who knew him.
Known for his passion for football, Daniel played semi-pro with the Troy Trojans in NY for an impressive 11 years. Beyond the field, he found solace in the music of Elvis, his favorite artist. Each Christmas, he would proudly display a cardboard cutout of Elvis adorned with a Santa hat, inviting family and friends to capture special moments alongside the iconic figure.
Daniel served his country with pride, spending two years in the Navy (SeaBees) from 1956 to 1957. His commitment to service extended beyond his military years, as he remained dedicated to the well-being of others throughout his life.
Family and friends are invited to call on Saturday, April 6, 2024 from 10:00 - 11:30a.m. at the Howard B. Tate & Son Funeral Home Inc., 2237 New York Route 7, located in Raymertown, NY. A funeral service for Mr. Johnston will follow at the funeral home at 11:30 a.m. with Rev. Joel Holcomb, Pastor of Center Brunswick United Method Church. officiating. Burial will take place in the Dunham-Johnston plot located in Grafton Center Cemetery.
