Troy- Doris M. (Bonesteel) Shaffer, 95, a longtime resident of Brunswick and more recently Troy, died peacefully Wednesday, July 6, 2022, at the Eddy Memorial Geriatric Center following a brief illness.
Doris was the daughter of the late Freeman E. and Florence E. (Keyes) Bonesteel and, for over 61 years, the beloved wife of the late Ralph E. Shaffer, who predeceased her in 2008.
As a young woman, she worked for several years as a seamstress at the former Marshall Ray and Sons Clothiers in Troy and later the former Cluett, Peabody and Co., also in Troy, prior to her marriage to Ralph. Most recently she had been a homemaker and enjoyed caring for her husband and raising her children.
Doris was a life member of the Center Brunswick United Methodist Church, and served as a Sunday School teacher, on the Administrative Council, and was President of the Friendly Circle .
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Thomas E. and Sharleen Shaffer, a daughter, Debra Dutcher, four beloved grandchildren, Megan (Alan), Slade, Shanna (Justin), and Tara (Rhandy), a great-grandson, Noah, a sister-in-law, Connie Bonesteel, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her late husband and parents, she was predeceased by three brothers, William, Warren, and Kenneth Bonesteel.
Relatives and friends are invited to call at the Howard B. Tate and Son Funeral Home Inc., 2237 New York Route 7, located in Raymertown on Monday, July 11, 2022, from 4:00-7:00 p.m. A funeral service for Doris will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, July 12, at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Joel Holcomb, pastor of Center Brunswick United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Gardens in Colonie.
Doris was a loving person to everyone and will truly be missed by family and friends. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to either the Center Brunswick United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, 990 Hoosick Road, Troy, NY 12180, or the Pittstown Area Food Pantry, 97 Tomhannock Road, Valley Falls, NY 12185, in memory of Doris M.
