Pittstown- Edith M. (Berney) Bieg, 75, a longtime resident of Pittstown, died peacefully, Friday, December 4, 2015, surrounded by her family at St. Mary’s Hospital in Troy.
Edie, born in Troy, February 7, 1940, was the daughter of the late Frank and Hilda (Tinney) Berney and for over 26 years the wife of Bernard Bieg of Pittstown, who survives. Edie and Bernie were married on June 24, 1989.
Edie was a graduate of Troy High School and for over 20 years was employed by Rainbow Cleaners in Troy as a press operator. She retired in 2007.
Edie’s favorite time of year was Spring, to her it was “watching a new beginning”. Edie enjoyed the outdoors, especially watching wildlife, feeding “her” birds and squirrels, as well as visiting her favorite “sitting spot” alongside the Dill Brook Creek in Petersburg.
Edie and Bernie enjoyed dart games on the porch, watching the Yankee games and NASCAR races along with her favorite soap operas and cooking shows. Last but not least her cat, Jasper, who never strayed far from her lap.
Edie is survived by her children, Kathleen and Charles Mease and Wayne and Penny Gilbert of Johnsonville, Patricia and Joseph Gierka of Barto, PA, Bernie and Fran Bieg of Wynantskill, Liz Bieg and Ray Jewett of Brunswick and Cathy Bieg of Pittstown, seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, a sister and brother, the late, Marion Peckham and Alfred “Bud” Berney, predeceased her.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 8, 2015, at 10:00 A.M. at the Howard B. Tate & Son Funeral Home Inc., 2237 New York Route 7, located in Raymertown with Rev. Carl Noakes officiating. Burial will follow in Eagle Mills Cemetery in Brunswick. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Monday, December 7, 2015 from 4:00 – 7:00 P.M.
