Albany- Edward Carl Hansen, 87, a lifelong resident of Raymertown, died peacefully Saturday, March 23, 2024, at St. Peter’s Hospital following a short illness with his family by his side.
Born in the Town of Pittstown December 13, 1936, Ed was son number six of twelve children born to George A. and Clara (Sheffer) Hansen and the best friend and husband for many years of Rosemarie D. (Ferraro) Hansen, who predeceased him December 29, 2009.
After attending the Lincolnville School, Ed graduated from Lansingburgh High School, Class of 1956.
He worked the family farm with his father until he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on February 11, 1957. Following basic training in Cherry Point, NC, he was stationed at the base as a heavy truck driver and specialized motor vehicle operator transporting children on the base to and from school each day. Following two years of service, including two letters of commendation, he was honorably discharged with the rank of Lance Corporal.
Upon returning home and working as a mechanic for an area car dealership, Ed built his longtime Ford Road home overlooking the surrounding farmland and Tomhannock Reservoir, of which he was very proud. It was there that he and his wife began and raised their family.
Ed was an active member of the community, a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Raymertown and for many years active in the former St. George Catholic Church in Pittstown where Rose and their boys were communicants. He was a member of the Raymertown Volunteer Fire Company, assisted for many years as an election poll watcher, and was a member and current treasurer for the Town of Pittstown Seniors group. At the time of his retirement in 1998, he was employed as a lead mechanic at Carbone Subaru in Bennington, VT.
Ed loved RV camping and snow birding to Florida with Rose after retirement. He also enjoyed working part time with Imperial Trailer Sales and Service in Brunswick. His most favorite pastime was spending time with his family and friends, especially his great grandchildren.
Ed is survived by two sons and three daughters-in-law, Eric and Dawn Hansen of Georgia, Craig and Pauline Hansen of Raymertown, and (David) Barbara Hansen of Raymertown, seven beloved grandchildren, Deanna, David, Heather, Paige, Spencer, Wade, and Hailey, six adored great-grandchildren, Luke, Cole, Liam, Reese, Mason, and Virginia, a brother and sister-in-law, Peter and Luella Hansen of Boyntonville, two sisters and a brother-in-law, Evelyn Ryan of Tomhannock and Nancy and John Fisher of Indiana, PA, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his late parents and wife, Ed was predeceased by a son, David Hansen in 2004.
