
Tomhannock- Elizabeth A. (Cipperly) Madigan, 80, a longtime resident of Tomhannock, died peacefully, Friday, March 9, 2018, at her home, with her family by her side, following a long illness.
Born in Troy, June 29, 1937, and raised on Taborton Mountain (Town of Sand Lake), Elizabeth was the daughter of the late Alvin and Dorothy (Inglis) Cipperly and for over 25 years the devoted wife of the late Joseph D. Madigan who predeceased her in 1989. Elizabeth and Joe were married on June 25, 1963.
Elizabeth was a graduate of Averill Park High School, Class of 1955.
As a young woman she was employed as a clerk by the former Western Electric Company in Albany where her friend Carol (Madigan) Brackley introduced her to her future husband, Joe. For many years after her marriage she was a homemaker and enjoyed raising her family and caring for her husband. More recently Beth was employed as a customer service representative for 22 years at Troy New Channels Company (Time Warner Co.) in Troy until her retirement in 2007.
She was a former communicant of St. Henry’s Church in Averill Park and the former St. Monica’s Church in Johnsonville. Elizabeth was an avid NY Yankees fan, an excellent cook, known for creating amazing lunches and at one time enjoyed bowling at the lanes in the rathskeller at the Lakeview Hotel in Averill Park.
Elizabeth is survived by her children, Daniel J. (JoAnn) Madigan of Valley Falls, Douglas J. (Kathryn) Madigan of Jonesville, Jeffrey P. (Shannon) Madigan of Tomhannock and Cynthia A. (Paul) King of Saranac Lake, her beloved grandchildren, Lauren, Thomas, Patrick, Kenneth, Ashley and Henry Madigan and Tabitha King, two sisters and a brother, Dorothy Biittig and Gayle Marie Rokjer both of Melbourne, FL and Joseph Cipperly of West Palm Beach, FL, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by three brothers and two sisters, Alvin R. Cipperly, Daniel C. Cipperly, Peter D. Cipperly, Jeanne B. Lajeunesse and Miriam I. Reardon.
A Mass of Christian Resurrection for Elizabeth will be celebrated by Fr. George Fleming on Thursday, March 15, 2018 at 9:30 A.M. at Transfiguration North Parish in Schaghticoke. Burial at St. John’s Cemetery in Schaghticoke will be held later this Spring. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the church on Wednesday, March 14th from 4:00-7:00 P.M.
