Brunswick- Helen (Lewis) Campbell-Brust, 94, a longtime resident of Grange Road, died peacefully, Friday, December 4, 2015 at the Eddy Heritage House in Troy following a short illness.
Born in Troy, May 22, 1921, Helen was the daughter of the late George C. and Hazel (Kornetzki) Lewis and the wife of the late Howard G. Campbell and more recently the late Donald Brust.
Mrs. Brust was a graduate of Troy High School and the American Banking Institute.
As a young woman she was employed for over sixteen years as a bookkeeper by the former Brown’s Garage in Cropseyville. More recently she was employed for over twenty five years by the former Union National Bank (currently M&T Bank and Trust) in Sycaway where she began as a teller and at the time of her retirement in 1983 had been promoted to the position of Branch Manager at the bank’s Sycaway Office and was the Assistant Bank Vice President.
Mrs. Brust was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Speigletown, the Speigle Elders Club, the Mr. & Mrs. Club of Brunswick, the Altrussa Club of the Troy Business Women’s Association, and volunteered at Samaritan Hospital. She was a former 4-H Leader in the Sycaway Club and a member for many years of the former Center Brunswick Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary. In her quiet time she liked to relax by gardening, enjoyed traveling and loved to visit with her family and friends.
Her survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Gary James of Brunswick, four sisters and a brother, Arlene Smith of Florida, Milton Lewis of Florida, Marilene Hammond of Brunswick, Jacqueline and William Pine of Hoosick Falls and Shirley Little of Chestertown, grandchildren, Nicole L. and Larry Funk of Brunswick, William E. and Tracie Maloney of Speigletown, Brad R. and Dr. Angelina Maloney of Speigletown and Jay R. and Jamie Maloney of Brunswick, twelve great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husbands, she was predeceased by three sisters and two brothers, the late John Lewis, Mildred Lewis, Hazel Bentley, William Lewis and Jean Sliter.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 9, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. at the Howard B. Tate & Son Funeral Home Inc., 2237 New York Route 7, located in Raymertown with Rev. Gaylord Campbell officiating. Burial will follow in Norton Cemetery in Pittstown. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Tuesday, December 8th from 4:00 – 7:00 P.M.
