Granville- Helen Z. Brust, 96, a longtime resident of Pittstown, and more recently a resident at the Danforth Adult Care Center in Hoosick Falls, died peacefully, Sunday, August 18, 2019 at the Haynes House of Hope Hospice in Granville following a long illness.
Born in Hoosick Falls, March 16, 1923, Helen was the daughter of the late Steven and Sophie (Messer) Zareski and for many years the devoted wife of the late Randall “Mike” Brust.
Mrs. Brust was a graduate of Hoosick Falls High School.
As a young woman she worked as a machinist at the Watervliet Arsenal in support of the military services during WWII. More recently she was a homemaker in her Pittstown farmstead home raising her children, caring for her home and assisting her husband with farm chores as needed. In her quiet time, Helen enjoyed reading, gardening, cooking and the occasional trip to the coast of Massachusetts where she would indulge herself with fresh seafood and lobster.
Helen was a longtime communicant of the former St. George R.C. Church in Pittstown.
Her survivors include her three children, Michael J. Brust of Pittstown, Lois King of Tennessee and Amy Strack, eight grandchildren, Jonathan, Todd, Tracey, Wayne, Tara, Daniel, Karl and Chris, great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents and husband, Helen was predeceased by a daughter, the late Jean. H. Guild.
A Prayer service for Helen will be held on Saturday, August 24, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at the Howard B. Tate & Son Funeral Home Inc., 2237, NY Route 7, located in Raymertown. Burial will follow in the family plot at Warren Cemetery in Boyntonville. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Saturday, from 10:00 -11:00 a.m. prior to the prayer service.
