Johnsonville- James Edward Millard, 81, a life long resident Johnsonville and Pittstown, died peacefully Friday, March 25, 2016 at his River Road home following a short illness.
Born in Nortonville, (Town of Pittstown) July 8, 1934, James was the son of the late Earl J. and Cathrine F. (Cross) Millard and for over 41 years the husband of Constance M. (Clous) Millard who predeceased him in 1996.
As a young boy Jim attended the Groveside District School in Pittstown and later Knickerbacker Jr./Sr High School in Lansingburgh.
For several years he was employed by the former Norton Company in Watervliet and worked as a production worker in the abrasives room in the manufacturing shop. Later he was employed as a machine operator by the Saint Gobain Company also in Watervliet and retired in 1995.
Jim enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren and was a great example for them by volunteering to serve others through his work at “His Table Soup Kitchen” in Lansingburgh. Jim loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed working in his extensive wood shop where he created many beautiful crafts and furniture.
Mr. Millard is survived by three sons, Arthur C. Millard and Edward J. Millard both of Johnsonville and Peter D. Millard of Arizona, his siblings, Donna (and Joe) Flynn of Troy, Betty Sandercox of Pittstown, Roger (and Joan) Millard of Louisiana and a sister-in-law, Doris Millard of Valley Falls, eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife he was predeceased by a daughter, the late Jenny Lee Millard and two brothers and sister-in-law, Rodney Millard and Ralph and Vivian Millard.
A private visitation and funeral service will be held at the convenience of the family at the Howard B. Tate & Son Funeral Home Inc., 2237 NY Route 7, located in Raymertown with Rev. Joseph Flynn officiating. Burial will take place in Elmwood Cemetery in Schaghticoke.
At Mr. Millard’s family’s request, memorial contributions if desired may be made to His Table Soup Kitchen, care of Amazing Grace Church, PO Box, 217, Troy, NY 12182 in memory of James E. Millard.
