Raymertown- James W. Hiller, 72, a resident of Sterup Drive in Raymertown for over 40 years and more recently, Lake Avenue in the Village of Nassau, died peacefully, Sunday, April 3, 2016 at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany, following a brief illness.
Born in Troy, October 4, 1943, Mr. Hiller was the son of the late Albert and Thelma (Davis) Hiller and for over 42 years the husband of the late Patricia R. (Nazarian) Hiller who predeceased him June 25, 2007. Jim and Pat were married on August 14, 1965.
Mr. Hiller was a graduate of Troy High School and for over 25 years was employed as a machinist by the former Bendix Company, Friction Brake Materials Division located in Green Island. He retired in 1991.
Jim was an avid fan of dirt track racing and enjoyed attending Lebanon Valley Speedway as often as he could. In addition he liked to go camping with his family and friends, especially to Shadow Brook campground in Cooperstown and in the 1970’s and 1980’s competed in several bowling leagues at the Uncle Sam Bowling Lanes in Troy.
Jim is survived by a daughter, Eileen (Hiller) Kane (Vince Riganti) of Watervliet and a son, James W. Hiller II of Nassau, a grandson, Jason Kane of Watervliet, several nieces and nephews and his “Best Friend” of over 60 years, Jon Cushine of Fort Ann. In addition to his parents and late wife, he was predeceased by a brother, the late Richard Hiller, a sister, Lynn (Hiller) Jerard and two grandchildren, Tyler Kane and Marissa Kane.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 9, 2016 at 1:00 P.M. at the Howard B. Tate & Son Funeral Home Inc., 2237 New York Route 7, located in Raymertown. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Saturday from 11:00 A.M. – 12:45 P.M. prior to the service.
At the request of Jim’s family, memorial contributions may be made to the Pittstown Volunteer Emergency Corps., 60 Parker School Road, Johnsonville, New York 12094 in memory of James W. Hiller.
