Brunswick – Janet G. (Grace) Roden, 90, a lifelong resident of Brunswick, died peacefully Friday, August 30, 2021, at Van Rensselaer Manor following a long illness.
Born in Troy March 11, 1931, Janet was the daughter of the late Edward and Laura (Mongeau) Grace and, for over 69 years, the beloved wife of Leonard C. Roden of Brunswick, who survives. Janet and Len were married on May 20, 1952.
Janet was a graduate of Catholic Central High School in Troy.
After her marriage to Len and establishing their home in Brunswick, Janet started a family, then entered the workforce as a Home Health Aide for Rensselaer County. After 21 years of service, in a career she was born to do, she retired in 1989.
Janet was a member of the Brunswick Seniors and Speigle Elders Clubs and enjoyed many trips with both groups. She was a member of The Brunswick Church, and she and Len belonged to the church’s Couples Club.
Janet loved working with the elderly. She was well grounded in her values, had a great sense of humor, and a strong faith. Her hobbies included gardening, cooking, and spending time at her pool in the summer with family and friends.
In addition to her husband, Leonard, Janet is survived by her three children, Kathy Costantino (Glen Browning) of Brunswick, Carol (Stephen) Van Hattum of Florida, and Stephen L. Roden (Virginia Powell) of E. Nassau, five grandchildren, Ryan (Jackie) Costantino, Ben Roden, Tim Roden, Matthew Roden, and Grace Roden, a great granddaughter, Harper Costantino, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Shirley Dunn.
A funeral service for Janet will be held at noon Thursday, September 2, 2021, at The Brunswick Church, 42 White Church Lane in Brunswick, with Rev. Wright officiating. Burial will follow in Brookside Cemetery (adjacent to the church) in Brunswick. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the church on Thursday from 10:00 a.m.-12:00 noon, prior to the service. Facemasks, social distancing, and occupancy as appropriate with respect to the NYS Health Department COVID-19 guidelines will be followed.
