Schaghticoke—Jean Grace (Wiesenforth) DeLair, 83, a longtime resident of Schaghticoke, died peacefully Tuesday, February 14, 2023, following a short illness at Samaritan Hospital in Troy with her loving family by her side.
Born in Troy July 12, 1939, Jean was the daughter of the late Francis (Frank) and Julia “Gert” (O’Brien) Wiesenforth and, for 63 years, the beloved wife of David L. DeLair Sr. of Schaghticoke, who survives.
Jean was a graduate of Catholic Central High School in Troy. For many years she was a homemaker, initially in Albia (east side of Troy) and more recently in Schaghticoke. After raising her children, she was employed for over five years as a machinist at the Watervliet Arsenal and later worked part time at Germania Hall in Lansingburgh.
Jean was a communicant of the former St. John’s Roman Catholic Church and currently Transfiguration Parish North in Schaghticoke. In her quiet time, of which there was little, she enjoyed shopping and traveling to the Waters Edge in Lake Pleasant in Speculator.
In addition to her husband, Jean is survived by her three children, David L. and Susan DeLair Jr. of Iron Station, NC, Laurie M. and John Pollay of Schaghticoke, and Richard (Rick) F. DeLair of Schaghticoke, a sister, Elaine Bruno Formerly of Raymertown and currently of South Carolina, four grandsons, Michael and Melanie DeLair, Justin and Lindsey DeLair, Douglas Dyer III, and Seth and Jamie Pollay, three great grandsons, Derek DeLair, Bryson DeLair, and Jack Pollay, and four nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a brother, Frank Wiesenforth.
Relatives and friends are invited to call on Friday, February 17, 2023, at Transfiguration Parish North, 17 South Main Street in Schaghticoke from 10:00-11:45 a.m. A funeral mass for Jean will be celebrated at noon. Burial at Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Veterans Cemetery will take place at 2:30 p.m. Family and friends are invited to attend a reception following the services for Jean at the V.F.W. Post in Valley Falls at 4:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, Jean’s family has requested contributions, if desired, to be made to her church, Transfiguration Parish, 17 South Main Street, Schaghticoke, Ny 12154, in memory of Jean Grace DeLair.
