Troy - Joan Ann Sullivan, 65, formerly of Raymertown and a longtime resident of Troy, died peacefully Sunday, February 20, 2022, at Samaritan Hospital in Troy with her loving and supportive family by her side following a long illness.
Born in Troy, January 30, 1957, Joan was the daughter of the late Jane Brenenstuhl and the loving partner and best friend of Paul Hewitt of Troy, who survives.
Joan was a graduate of Tamarac High School.
Beginning in 1999, Joan established Little Munchkins Daycare in Lansingburgh. Throughout her career she touched the hearts of her munchkin family and helped to develop in them a love of learning and caring for others through the example she set for herself. Former students, who referred to her as “Grandma Joan,” would quite often return to visit after moving on or stop her on the street to say hello and catch up on their latest accomplishments. Joan so loved those visits and was very proud of all her many students.
Joan was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Raymertown and the local Daycare Owners Group.
She loved being outdoors and spent her time hiking, kayaking, and traveling. She enjoyed her walks through Oakwood Cemetery, her days swimming with friends at the YMCA, and her many summers spent camping at Schroon River. Most precious to Joan was time spent with her children, grandchildren, family, and her dog, Gabbie, who helped comfort her through her difficult times.
In addition to Mr. Hewitt, Joan is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Tracy and Mike Bub Jr. of Mechanicville, a son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Karen Sullivan Sr., of Kingsport, TN, a sister and brother-in-law, Carol and Rich Talbot of Raymertown, three grandchildren, Michael E. Bub III and Hailey Bub, both of Mechanicville, and Michael J. Sullivan Jr. of Averill Park, two nephews, Erik and Brady Talbot, two aunts, Sandra Casey and MaryLee Wilcox, an uncle and aunt, Lawrence and Candy Bornt, and several cousins.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, February, 24, 2022, at 7:00 p.m. at the Howard B. Tate & Son Funeral Home Inc., 2237 NY Route 7, located in Raymertown. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Thursday from 4:00-7:00 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will take place later this spring at Hillside Cemetery in Raymertown.
Memorial contributions, if desired, may be made to either the Nancy B. Clemente Cancer Fund, 369 Brunswick Road, Troy, NY 12180 or to the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society, 3 Oakland Avenue, Menands, NY 12203, in memory of Joan A. Sullivan
