Troy, NY- John Peter Wong, 80, of Wynantskill, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 2, 2021 at Samaritan Hospital in Troy after a brief illness, surrounded by his loving family.
Mr. Wong was born in Queens, NY, on November 9, 1941, the son of the late Wing You Wong and Helen (Lee) Wong and the husband of Paulette (Colson) Wong of Wynantskill, who survives.
Mr. Wong was a graduate of Troy High School and SUNY Albany.
In October of 1967, he enlisted in the United States Navy and, after basic training, was stationed at Port Hueneme, CA, and later at Okinawa, Japan during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged on April 30, 1971.
For over 30 years, he was employed as a statistician for the NYS Department of Labor in Albany, before retiring in 2003.
Mr. Wong was an avid bowler and outdoorsman. He was a loving husband and father, who volunteered with the Boy Scouts of America and coached youth hockey and softball. Among his most favorite memories were time spent traveling and road tripping with family and spending time with his cats.
In addition to his loving wife, Paulette, he is survived by his sister, Arlene Wong Glynn (Thomas) of Jeffersonville, VT, his children, Ian Wong of Londonderry, NH and Lee Anne Wong of Pukalani, HI, his stepchildren, Glen Colson (Vickie) of Porter Corners, Dan Colson (Karen) of Argyle, and Debbie Colson Hoyos (Johnny) of Porter Corners, his niece, Jessica Glynn Kurfis (James) of Jeffersonville, VT, and several grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Raymond Wong.
A private graveside ceremony with military honors will be held in spring 2022 at Hillside Cemetery in Raymertown, NY, at the convenience of the Wong family. There will be no public calling hours.
