Pittstown- Joseph F. “Joe” Carl, 72, a resident of Factory Hollow Road since 1985, died suddenly, Wednesday, March 2, 2016, at Samaritan Hospital in Troy after being stricken at his home.
Born April 8, 1943 in Troy, Joe was the son of the late Edward and Josephine (Yetto) Carl and for over 51 years the devoted husband of Karen (Goerold) Carl of Pittstown who survives. Joe and Karen were married on April 11, 1964.
As a young boy Joe, who grew up in Wynantskill, attended the Wynantskill School and later, Troy High School.
On October 3, 1960, he enlisted in the United States Army. During basic training he was awarded the Marksman medal and on August 6, 1961, was honorably discharged to the National Guard of New York to fulfill his military commitment. Joe was very proud to serve our Country with the National Guard and retired after more than 30 years of service.
Joe worked for a time at the former Fitzgerald Electric in Wynantskill and later was a self employed licensed electrician for several years. In the early 1980’s he was employed as the Superintendant of the Hoosick Falls Armory by New York State Division of Military and Naval Affairs. After more than 20 years of service he retired in April 2005.
Joe was a long-time member of the Wynantskill Volunteer Fire Company and served as an usher for the Tri-City ValleyCats for 10 years where he enjoyed the company of staff, players and fans. He was eagerly awaiting Spring so he could play golf and work in his yard. He loved being around his many friends and would always do whatever he could to assist them if they needed help.
In addition to his wife, Joe is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Pam and Matthew Welch of Brunswick, his much adored grandchildren, Zachery Welch and Molly Welch of Brunswick, brothers and sisters, Alma Ross of Brunswick, Paul (Donna) Carl of Florida, Pat (Tom) Danaher of Averill Park, Edward (Gloria) Carl of Troy and Dennis Carl of Wynantskill and many nieces and nephews. Joe was predeceased by a son, the late Joseph E. Carl, a brother and sister-in-law, Raymond and Judy Carl and a brother-in-law, John Ross.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, March 7, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. at the Howard B. Tate & Son Funeral Home Inc., 2237 NY State Route 7, located in Raymertown. Burial with military honors will follow in Oakwood Cemetery in Troy. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday, March 6, from 4:00-7:00 P.M.
