Pittstown- Joseph Richard Yerke, 50, a longtime resident of Pittstown, died peacefully, Friday, February 28, 2020, at Samaritan Hospital in Troy following a long illness.
Born in Troy, March 6, 1969, Mr. Yerke was the son of the late Richard D. Yerke and Sarah J. (Bly) Briggs and the husband for over 5 years of Shannen McBride-Yerke, both of Pittstown who survive.
Mr. Yerke was educated in the Berlin Central School District and earned a Medical Assistant Certification from Branford Hall in Albany.
For many years he was employed as a truck driver, working most recently for Ramsco Industrial Supply Company in Watervliet. He retired in 2012.
Joe was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing, especially at the Tomhannock Reservoir in Raymertown, and riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle.
In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by his stepdad, Kenneth Briggs Sr. of Pittstown, his children, Emily, Mackenzie, Katelynn, Josh, and Kelly, two brothers and a sister-in-law and a sister and brother-in-law, David and Connie Yerke of Menands, Nettie and George Rathbun of Berlin and Kenneth Briggs Jr. of Pittstown, nephews, Jordon, Brandon, and Ryan, his wife’s sisters, Kathy Barnes and Tricia Gualtieri, both of Buffalo, two maternal aunts, and several cousins. He is predeceased by his brother Cory Briggs of Pittstown.
A private graveside ceremony will be held at the convenience of the family at Meadowlawn Cemetery in Petersburgh with Rev. Michael Collins of the Brunswick Baptist Church officiating. There will be no public calling.
Memorial contributions at the request of the family may be made to the Brunswick Baptist Church, 385 Grange Road, Troy, NY 12180, in memory of Joseph R. Yerke.
