Troy- Leo Edward Madigan, 84, formerly of Tomhannock and for many years Troy, died peacefully Friday, February 9, 2024, surrounded by his loving family at St. Peter’s Hospital, following a short illness.
Born February 15, 1939, at the former Leonard Hospital in Troy and raised on the family’s Tomhannock farm, Leo was the son of the late Edward and Marian (Patton) Madigan.
Leo graduated from Hoosic Valley High School, Class of 1956.
Leo enlisted in the United States Army and after basic training was stationed in Korea during the Korean Conflict. After completing his enlistment and Army Reserve requirements as a Specialist 4th grade and company clerk, he was honorably discharged on January 31, 1964.
Upon returning home from the Army, he took a position with the Norton Company in Watervliet, where he was employed as a Research Engineer. After more than 37 years of service, he retired in 1995.
Leo enjoyed softball, golf, and lots of hiking with his canine buddies. With lots of study, he became an avid Bible enthusiast, sharing his beliefs with his family and friends.
In addition to his parents, Leo was predeceased by his three sisters, Maureen, Peg, and Pat. He leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews that will miss him dearly. Leo was considered the “rock” of the family, caring for his parents, sisters, nieces, and nephews, stepping in to provide both love and support when needed. We love you Uncle Leo and know that Bruno is waiting for you at Heaven’s gate.
A graveside service for Leo will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at St. John’s Cemetery in Schaghticoke.
At the request of Leo’s family, memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to the Mohawk-Hudson Humane Society, 3 Oakland Avenue, Menands, NY 12203, in memory of Leo E. Madigan.
