West Sand Lake- After a life well lived, Lila M. (Grant) Borter, formerly of Brunswick and more recently of resident of West Sand Lake, left her earthly home on June 5, 2023, three days short of her 93rd birthday. She was the daughter of the late Elmer and Ann (Levesque) Grant and the wife of the late Donald Borter.
She was born in Troy and graduated from Lansingburgh High School. During her younger years, she attended the Eleanor Miller School of Dance and performed at the Troy Savings Bank Music Hall.
Lila worked for many years in clerical positions at the former Montgomery Ward and Co. in Menands and the former Trojan Electronics Co. in Troy, until retiring at 80 years of age.
She enjoyed painting, crafting, cooking, gardening, knitting, and crocheting, and most of all, shopping for bargains.
Lila will be missed by her children, Donna (Richard) Luby of Pittstown, Robert (Patricia Logue) Borter of Brattleboro, VT, Thomas (Barbara) Borter of Pittstown, and grandchildren, Rima (Kevin) Brooks of Claremont, NH, Jeremy (Anastasia) Smith of Arlington, VA, Jennifer (Mark) Collins of Brunswick, and Jeffrey (Emily) Borter of Homer, NY. Her great-grandchildren, Madelynn and Braley Collins, and William, Jane, and Charlie Borter all have a new angel watching over them. She is also survived by her lifelong friend and partner in crime, Catherine “Kay” Hagadorn of Pittstown, who provided road trips and travel adventures with lots of laughter, and her neighbor in the Brookside Community, Mary Ann Capece, who is owed a debt of gratitude for her help at any time of day when Lila was having difficulties.
A memorial service for Lila will be held on Saturday June 10, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. at the Howard B. Tate & Son Funeral Home Inc., 2237 NY Route 7, located in Raymertown. Inurnment will follow in St. John’s Cemetery in North Troy. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home on Saturday morning from 9:30-10:30 a.m. prior to the service.
