Linda Louise Borden, age 74, passed away on August 10, 2023. She leaves behind many family members and friends who will miss her dearly. She was the daughter of Victor Colburn and Eleanor Pesacreta and grew up in Have’ de Grace, Maryland with sisters Betty Ciancanelli, Jeniene Hofer and Susan Meyer. She became a meticulous bookkeeper at home and later worked as one for ARC of Rensselaer County for many years.
She spent more than 56 years with her husband Gerald R. Borden. They built their own house together in Pittstown, NY. She enjoyed working on and being the supervisor of their many crafty projects and gifts, from furniture and jewelry making to sewing and ceramics. Her three children, Wendy Craney (John Craney), Keri Dauphin (Dennis Dauphin) and Todd Borden (Kerry Loiselle), will remember her as a generous, kind, caring and stubborn mother who had a beautiful smile. Her love for her children was only matched by her love of the color purple and hummingbird sweaters.
She was able to live in and travel to many parts of the country, but one of her best vacations was a family trip to Maine with her grandchildren, Ean and Jamison Gavigan, Caleb Borden and Evalyn Craney. They enjoyed playing in the ocean and cheering for Grammy as they all climbed a ropes course with her and leaped from a giant rope swing.
We were blessed to learn many valuable lessons from Linda, including the importance of keeping every single receipt you get because you never know when the auditors will want to see the $2 receipt for bird food. She also believed you weren’t fully dressed unless you donned a set of color coordinated earrings.
But most importantly, she taught us how to be hard working, resourceful and thoughtful. These lessons and memories will be cherished and passed along for generations to come.
A memorial service will be held at Howard B. Tate and Son Funeral Home on Friday, August 18th from 4pm-7pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Judes Children’s Hospital and Pittstown Volunteer Emergency Corps.
