Murrells Inlet, SC- Lorraine Ada (Rifenburgh) Briggs, 88, formerly of Pittstown, NY, and more recently South Carolina, died peacefully March 7, 2020, after an incredibly full life that was an inspiration to all who knew her.
Born August 20, 1931, in Pittstown, Lorraine was the daughter of the late Clayton and Edna (Botts) Rifenburgh and, for 49 years, the devoted wife and best friend of the late Ramon H. Briggs, who predeceased her in 2002. Lorraine and Ramon were married on September 13, 1952.
Following high school, Lorraine worked as a telephone operator and bank teller, and after marriage, as a mother and homemaker, her most coveted jobs.
After their marriage, Lorraine accompanied her husband wherever he was stationed around the world as a Master Sergeant with the United States Air Force. She was always involved with the Wives’ Club and, after retiring to Myrtle Beach, worked at the Non-Commissioned Officers’ Club as a member of the food and beverage industry. It was there that she met some of her best friends and was known to be the “life of the party.” When she had quiet time, of which there was not much, she liked to comb the beach for shells to add to her beautiful collection. After the closing of the local Air Force Base, she began a long volunteer career at Associated Charities Inc., serving the Myrtle Beach community.
Lorraine is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Lori and Daniel Jansen of Murrells Inlet, SC, and Lisa and Andy Rosenbaum of Mt. Pleasant, SC, her grandson and grandaughter, Clayton and Carson Rosenbaum, her brother-in-law, Wayne Briggs, and sisters-in-law, Lorraine Agan and Beverly Moore, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a brother-in-law and a sister-in-law, Walden Briggs and Helene Briggs.
