Schaghticoke- Mabel F. (Aldrich) Seymour, 93, a lifelong resident of Schaghticoke, died peacefully Friday evening, April 29, 2022, at her residence surrounded by her loving family following a short illness.
Born February 17, 1929, at Hemstreet Park in the Town of Schaghticoke, Mrs. Seymour was the daughter of the late Francis G. and Mabel C. (Eggleston) Aldrich.
Mrs. Seymour was a graduate of the Union Free School in Schaghticoke.
As a young woman, she was employed by several area businesses, helping to support her family, and then accepted a position as a seamstress at the former Cluett, Peabody and Company Manufacturing in Troy. After more than 10 years of service in a job that suited her calm and quiet personality, she retired to raise her family and care for her home.
On April 27, 1947, Mabel married the love of her life, George W. Seymour, “a dashing,” World War II veteran at the Gaylord Farm in Schaghticoke. The couple raised their family in their longtime Village of Schaghticoke home, enjoyed 59 years of marriage, and were inseparable until George’s passing in July 2006.
Mabel enjoyed bowling at Hilltop Bowl, traveling with relatives and her Hoosic Valley Seniors group, sewing, reading the newspaper, talking walks, ice skating, baking, and volunteering at her church (especially in the summer at the fair booth) and the Hoosic Valley School. Her most favorite pastime was spending time caring for and watching over her grandchildren, of whom she was so very proud.
Mabel was an active member of the Presbyterian United Church in Schaghticoke and served as an Elder on the Church Board for many years. She delighted in the fact that both she and her sister, Marilyn, were honored by Hoosic Valley Central Schools for being “good citizens and assisting to better the school.”
