Brunswick, NY - Marilyn C. “Lynn” (Rosekrans) Meyer, 92, formerly of Bleeker Avenue in Troy and more recently Brunswick, died peacefully with her family by her side Monday, May 29, 2023, following a long illness.
Born in Troy, May 16, 1931, Lynn was the daughter of the late William L. and Florence (Higgitt) Rosekrans and for 54 years the wife of the late James H. “Jim the Mailman” Meyer, who predeceased her on August 25, 2009.
Lynn attended Watervliet High School and was then employed at General Electric in Schenectady, where she drew mechanical and electrical schematics. As a young mother, Lynn worked part-time at H.L. Green’s department store in downtown Troy as well as having a business selling Avon. Later, after her children were grown, she reentered the workforce and was employed as a coding clerk by the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles in the Albany Swan Street office and retired after more than 20 years of service.
Lynn was proud of her archery skills from her high school days and carried a pin from that time in her wallet. She also loved to dance and was thrilled to have won a New Year’s Eve dance contest. She enjoyed finding treasures at garage sales, going to Bingo with her sisters, and occasional visits to the horse racing track in Saratoga.
In addition to spending time with her daughters and grandchildren whom she loved dearly; Lynn loved animals. After having dogs while her daughters were growing up, she felt very strongly about helping stray cats who seemed to gravitate to her home. She would provide food, outside shelter, and many times take care of making sure to help “control the pet population.”
Lynn was a very kind and caring person who would literally give you the shirt off her back. Family members would always laugh whenever they complemented a piece of clothing, jewelry, or even a new pillowcase, you would invariably hear, “You want it?”
Lynn is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Kim I. and Khalil I. Melhem of Bradford, MA, and Sharen and Pastor Joel Holcomb of Brunswick, three granddaughters, Heather Melhem and Kristen Melhem of Boston, MA, and Emily “J.J.” Holcomb of Troy, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to her parents and late husband, she was predeceased by three sisters, Eleanor VanVranken, Joan Fish, and Arlene Barton.
A memorial celebration of life for Lynn will be held on Friday, June 16, 2023, at 6:00 p.m. at the Center Brunswick United Methodist Church, 990 Hoosick Road, Brunswick, NY, with Pastor Paul Sweet of Christ Church in Troy officiating. An ice cream social reception (Lynn’s favorite) will follow in the church fellowship hall. Relatives and friends are invited to wear a splash of pink, Lynn’s favorite color, and call at the church on Friday afternoon from 3:00-5:45 p.m., prior to the service. Inurnment at Memory’s Garden in Colonie will be held on a later date at the convenience of the family.
Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to Operation Snip Inc., 195 Second St. Troy NY 12180, or to Community Hospice of the Capital District, 310 S. Manning Blvd., Albany, NY 12208, in memory of Lynn Meyer.
