Raymertown- Martha (Bornt) Lang, 99, a lifelong resident of Raymertown and Logwoods Road, died peacefully, Tuesday, November 17, 2015 at her home following a long illness.
Born August 20, 1916 on the family farm in Raymertown, Martha was the daughter of the late Simeon H. and Sarah (Cushman) Bornt Sr. and for many years the devoted wife of the late Robert E. Lang who predeceased her in 1996.
As a young girl, Martha walked a mile each way with her brothers to attend the Raymertown District School and was a graduate of Lansingburgh High School’s Class of 1935.
She assisted her parents on the family farm as the bookkeeper and was a home maker in her own home where she cared for her husband and daughter and later helped out with her grandchildren.
Martha was a lifelong member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Raymertown, served for many years as the church’s financial secretary, was a member of the Town of Pittstown Seniors group and also a member of the Pittstown Historical Society.
In her quiet time Martha enjoyed attending as many of her grandchildren’s sporting activities as possible and could be found fiercely rooting for the Tamarac Bengals at many high school football and basketball games.
Martha is survived by her grandchildren; Mark Jones and Sharon Angus of Raymertown, Matthew Peckham and Shelley Lockrow of Raymertown, Timothy Peckham of Millertown, Jason and Leighann Peckham of Troy and Suzanne (and Evan) Peckham of SanAntonio, Texas, seven great grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, a special caregiver and niece, June Goard of Raymertown and many cherished nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her husband and parents, Martha was predeceased by her beloved daughter, Joyce, her son-in-law, Gene Peckham, and five brothers, Harold L. Bornt, Irving C. Bornt, Simeon “Hayner” Bornt II, Leslie A. Bornt and Raymond L. Bornt.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 21, 2015 at 10:00 A.M. at the Howard B. Tate & Son Funeral Home Inc. 2237 New York Route 7, located in Raymertown. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery also in Raymertown. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Friday, November 20th from 4:00 – 7:00 P.M.
