Pittstown-Martha V. (Platt) Lemka-Monty, 91, a resident of Taylors Lane since 1972, died peacefully Sunday, June 15, 2014 at the Centers for Health and Rehabilitation Services in Hoosick Falls.
Born in Rensselaer, June 9, 1923, Mrs. Monty was the daughter of the late Frederick E. and Carrietta (Welter) Platt and the wife of the late Alton F.
Lemka who predeceased her many years ago. On July 22, 1965 she remarried and for over 36 years was the wife of the late George J. Monty who predeceased her in March 2001.
Mrs. Monty was a graduate of the former Van Rensselaer High School.
In 1963, Mrs. Monty was employed as a principle stenographer by the NYS Division of Criminal Justice Services I Albany. After more than 15 years of service, she retired in 1978.
A homemaker since retiring, Mrs. Monty enjoyed wintering in Fort Pierce, Florida for the past 40 years, playing golf, working in her gardens, playing the piano and as a licensed single engine airplane pilot, enjoyed flying for many years.
Mrs. Monty is survived by a daughter, Linda Mae (Lemka) Hamed of Columbia, MD, three grandchildren, Adham Hamed of Pittsburgh, PA, Douglas Lemka of Columbus, GA and Laurie (Mitchell) Quackenbush of Averill Park, and several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and late husbands, she was also predeceased by two sons, the late Frederick A. Lemka and Thomas E. Lemka.
A private graveside service will be held at the Gerald B. H. Solomon, Saratoga National Veterans Cemetery in Schuylerville at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling.
