Valley Falls- Matthew A. Moore, 27, a lifelong resident of Valley Falls, died suddenly Monday, February, 20, 2023 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Born at Samaritan Hospital in Troy, Matt was the beloved son of John L. and Eva (Kalbfliesh) Moore of Valley Falls and the loving big little brother of Emily E. Moore of Austin, Texas.
Matt was a graduate of Hoosic Valley Central High School, Class of 2013, and Hudson Valley Community College where he earned an Associate’s Degree in Advanced Manufacturing Technologies.
At the time of his passing, Matt was employed for over 6 years, in a position he took tremendous pride in, as a machinist at the Cardish Machine Works in Watervliet.
Matt had a thirst for learning about many different topics he found interesting, and could get lost in a project that he wanted to explore or perfect. In addition to his love of creating incredibly precise CNC machined parts, he appreciated music and listened to every genre. He enjoyed learning the back stories of the songwriters and artists and built up a great knowledge of the music scene. He was an incredible cook who impressed with his technical knowledge and experimentation in the kitchen. Matt valued quality and authenticity in the people he loved and the things he owned. He loved being on the family farm and enjoyed camping in the Adirondack Mountains, especially at Otter Pond. Matt was an independent man with an eclectic personality. He was a gentle giant who gave wonderful bear hugs. Matt would quickly extend his hand in kindness to a stranger and was equally quick to come to anyone’s defense. He could seem quiet around people he didn’t know well, but around close friends and family he could be surprisingly silly. He had a dry wit and was always ready with a quick comeback. Matt didn’t let his own smile out easily, but he loved to put a smile on other people’s faces.
In addition to his parents and sister, Matt is survived by his paternal and maternal grandmothers, Beverly Moore of Valley Falls and Pauline Kalbfliesh of Melrose and the many loving members of the Moore and Kalbfliesh families and an amazing network of wonderful friends. He was predeceased by his grandfathers, the late Kenneth Moore and Valentine “Chic” Kalbfliesh.
Relatives and friends are invited to call from 1:00 – 6:00 P.M. on Sunday, February 26, 2023 at the Moore family’s St. Croix Farm home located at 14 Ridge Road, in Valley Falls. A memorial service for Matt will follow on Monday evening, February 27, 2023, at the Valley Falls United Methodist Church, 16 State Street, Valley Falls, NY at 6:30 P.M with Rev. Dion Marquit, pastor, officiating. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.
Memorial contributions, in lieu of flowers, may be made to the Gene Haas Scholarship at Hudson Valley Community College to benefit a student entering the machinist program in loving memory of Matthew Alexander Moore.
