Derry, NH- Maver L. (Johnson) Cole, 92, a longtime resident of Pittstown, passed away peacefully, Monday, April 26, 2021, at the Derry Center for Health and Rehabilitation.
Maver is the daughter of the late Raymond and Birdie (Richmond) Johnson and with her twin sister, Marilyn, the oldest of four sisters.
Maver was a graduate of Mechanic Falls High School in Maine. After high school she moved to New York State, where she met and later married Beaman B. Cole on January 1, 1950. The couple initially lived in Cohoes, then built their own home in the Town of Pittstown, outside of Troy, NY.
Maver loved to bake and challenged her own skills in creating difficult baked goods. She is well remembered by her grandchildren for her chocolate chip cookies. She was also talented in a variety of crafts, such as sewing, knitting, and crocheting. She even tried her hand at restoring old chairs with caning and rushing of the seating and back surfaces. For many years she was employed and retired as an Executive Chef of the Equity Meat Corporation’s former Cohoes location.
Maver was an active member of the Pleasantdale Community Church for many years, where she was a member of the Ladies’ Aid Society, taught Sunday School, and cooked for many events. She later joined the Brunswick Baptist Church. Her faith and love of Jesus were very important to her.
Maver is survived by her children and their spouses, Nadine and Ed of Tucson, AZ, and Beaman B. and Anne Cole II of Chester, NH, four beloved grandchildren Nathaniel, Benjamin, Tessa, and Skyler, her youngest sister, Ruby Hutnak of RI, as well as many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews. In addition to her parents and late husband, she was predeceased by two sisters, Marilyn Hay and Eva Costantino.
A funeral service for Maver will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 14, 2021, at the Howard B. Tate & Son Funeral Home Inc., 2237 NY Route 7, located in Raymertown. Burial will follow in Memory Gardens in Colonie. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Friday morning from 10:00-11:00 a.m. prior to the funeral service. New York State Health Dept. Covid-19 guidelines for social distancing and wearing of face masks will be observed.
