Pittstown- Mildred A. “Millie” (Young) Berard, 95, a longtime resident of Pittstown, died peacefully, Thursday, September 23, 2021, at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington, following a long illness.
Born in Watervliet, Millie was the daughter of the late Arthur F. and Cassie Mae (Williams) Young and, for over 66 years, the devoted wife of the late E. “George” Berard, who predeceased her September 9, 2018.
She was a graduate of Lansingburgh High School.
For many years Millie was a homemaker, raising her family and caring for her husband and home. At the same time, she assisted her husband as his partner on the Berard Family Farm in Pittstown. Together the couple worked side by side, growing acres of corn and baling hay. In her quiet time, Millie enjoyed her outdoor gardens, tending her many inside plants, caring for her animals and assisting her husband as he milled lumber in his sawmill.
Millie was a communicant of St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church in North Bennington and very proud to have served her community for many years as a member of the Pittstown Volunteer Emergency Corps.
Millie is survived by her children; Kathleen and Allen Sheffer of Brunswick, NY, George A. and Jeanne Berard of Wynantskill, NY, Frank E. and Christine Berard of Pittstown, NY, Judy Reiger of Hamden, CT, Christine Petit of Palenville, NY, David J. and Elizabeth Berard of Dorset, VT, Charles “Will” and Victoria Betit of Middleville, MI, William and Dianna Betit of Smithfield, NC, Ronald and Diane Betit, Ashland, OH, and Jodie and Bradley Kline, of Butler, OH, a brother and sister-in-law, Arthur A. and Anne Young of Delmar, NY, 24 grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Resurrection for Millie will be celebrated by Fr. Hugh Clary on Thursday, September 30, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church in North Bennington. A reception will follow immediately after Mass. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Wednesday, September 29, 2021, from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at the Howard B. Tate & Son Funeral Home Inc., 2237 New York Route 7, located in Raymertown.
