Brunswick-Noreen M. (Joy) Carroll, 94, a longtime resident of Brunswick, died peacefully Wednesday, December 29, 2021, at the Eddy Heritage House in Troy with her devoted daughters by her side, following a short illness.
Born in Poestenkill, August 1, 1927, Noreen (Rene) was the daughter of the late Zebulon and Anna (Poenisch) Joy Sr. and, for 28 years, the wife of the late Bernard Carroll Jr., who predeceased her December 22, 1979.
Rene was a graduate of Troy High School.
On August 27, 1951, she married the love of her life, Bernard, and established her home with him as they raised their family. As her family grew, they enjoyed camping trips, snowmobiling and competing in horse shows during the summer weekends. Rene loved to travel with trips to Hawaii and many visits to Florida. She also enjoyed her annual family vacations which started as her 70th birthday present from her daughters and continued for over two decades. Her favorite time was spending a week with her family on the beaches of Maine. More recently, Rene enjoyed road trips with her “gang” to Atlantic City, Foxwoods, and Mohegan Sun, where she would play an occasional game. Closer to home, enjoying her outings with friends to the Racino in Saratoga and the Saratoga Flat track during the summer.
Noreen is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia and Robert Simmons of Averill Park, and Colleen and Dennis Bonesteel of Troy, a sister, Rose Kaschak of Cropseyville, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and late husband, Noreen was predeceased by a cherished grandson, Greg Simmons, a brother, Zebulon Joy Jr., a dear sister, Mary Button, and her friend and companion, Mike Coffey.
A funeral service for Mrs. Carroll will be held on Tuesday, January 4, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. at the Howard B. Tate & Son Funeral Home Inc., 2237 New York Route 7, in Raymertown with Rev. Jeff Silvernail officiating. Burial will follow in St. Peter’s Cemetery in Troy. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Monday, January 3, 2022, from 4:00 -7:00 p.m. The family is requesting that appropriate face masks and social distancing protocols be observed, as well as limiting your visit to 15 minutes to help insure the health and safety of all our family and friends.
