
Cropseyville- Raymond C. “Ray” Pfeiffer, 74, a resident of Cropseyville for over 34 years, died peacefully, Sunday, September 22, 2019, at Samaritan Hospital in Troy, following brief illness.
Born in Grafton, October 13, 1944, Ray was the son of the late Winfred J. and Ella K. (Sager) Pfeiffer and for over 50 years the devoted husband of Barbara M. (Barnes) Pfeiffer of Cropseyville who survives. Ray and Barb were married at the Bloomingrove Church in Defreestville on August 2, 1969.
Ray attended Greenwich Central High School after his parents relocated to Easton and established the Archdale Farm. He left school after completing 11th grade to assist on the family farm where learned an incredible work ethic and responsibility to his family.
For over 40 years Ray worked on both the Archdale Farm and the Wishing Well farms owned by his family and worked off and on at The Nessle Brothers Meat Market in South Cambridge. More recently Ray worked as a machine operator at the Playtex Manufacturing Company in Watervliet, ran a bottle filling line at the Cumberland Farms Processing Plant in Rensselaer and most recently worked as the manager of the Seafood Department at the Hannaford Supermarket in Wynantskill.
In his quiet time Ray enjoyed working as an auctioneer and operating a small antique shop. He assisted in many many local auctions at the Brunswick Grange Hall, Tamarac Plaza and the annual Poestenkill Businessman’s Association Benefit Auction.
In addition to his wife, Barb, Ray is survived by a daughter, Marcy E. (Kyle Sweet) Pfeiffer of Cropseyville and a son and daughter-in-law, William and Melissa Pfeiffer, two grandchildren, William J. Pfeiffer Jr. of Cropseyville and Kaitlyn E. Pfeiffer, a brother-in-law, Timothy Barnes of Florida, his best friend, Frank (Terry) Ziehm of Buskirk, his nieces and nephews, Bob, Dick, Elaine, Kathy, John, George, Bonnie, Linda, Carol and Chris. In addition, he was predeceased by a brother and two sisters, Winfred J. “John” Pfeiffer Jr., Miriam Nessle, and Helen Pfeiffer.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, September 27, 2019, at 11:00 AM at the Blooming Grove Cemetery in Defreestville. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Thursday, September 26, from 4:00 – 7:00 PM at the Howard B. Tate & Son Funeral Home Inc., 2237 NY Route 7, located in Raymertown.
