Troy- Raymond E. Sullivan 84, formerly of Johnsonville and more recently of Green Island died peacefully, Monday, November 16, 2015 at Samaritan Hospital in Troy following a long illness.
Raymond, born June 18, 1931 in the Town of Pittstown, was the son of the late Mildred (Burdick) Sullivan and the husband of the late Gail (Groves) Sullivan who predeceased him.
Mr. Sullivan attended a one room district grammar school in Johnsonville and was a graduate of Hoosic Valley High School.
For many years he worked as a tractor trailer and truck driver for the former Montgomery Ward Company and Lease-way Transportation in Menands. Not quite content in his retirement that took place in 1984, Ray worked as a locksmith and as a security guard at the former Leonard Hospital in North Troy for several additional years.
Mr. Sullivan was a member of the Apollo-King Solomon’s Lodge #13 in Troy.
Ray enjoyed working on and riding his motorcycle and was active in “The Blue Knights” a benevolent group of motorcycle enthusiasts that used their hobby to benefit local police agencies charitable efforts. He also was a talented woodworker and enjoyed the hobby of carpentry.
Mr. Sullivan is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Michele and John Rockett of Halfmoon, his son and daughter-in-law, Bryan and Haydee Sullivan of Green Island, five grandchildren, Jason Pew, Alyssa Pew, Kristin Vaddiraja, Jennifer Sullivan and Jesse Sullivan, four great-grandchildren, Amaiya, Mason, Arya and Rohan, and a sister-in-law and her husband, Elsie and John Pritchard of Pittstown.
Funeral services at this time will be private at the convenience of the family with burial to take place in the spring at Albany Rural Cemetery. A memorial celebration in honor of Raymond will be held at a date and time to be announced later this coming spring.
