Eagle Mills--Raymond G. “Ray” Patton, 99, a lifelong resident of the Town of Brunswick, died peacefully Saturday, June 3, 2023, at his residence with his loving family by his side following a brief illness.
Born in Troy, February 20, 1924, Ray was the son of the late Thomas A. and Isetta (Reckner) Patton and for over 46 years, the devoted husband of the late Marion (Pollock) Patton, who predeceased him May 13, 1995. Ray and Marion were married on August 8, 1948.
Ray attended District School 16 as a boy and graduated from Troy High School.
As a young man, Ray worked on the family farm. After getting married, he worked on his own farm. Later, he worked as a delivery driver for his brother-in-law at the F. Robert Pollock Lumber Co. formerly in Troy. More recently, he drove a school bus for the former Golden Arrow Bus Lines in North Troy and most recently was employed as a school bus driver by the Brittonkill Central School District. In addition to driving the bus, Ray was also the owner and operator of Dater Hill Kennel in Eagle Mills. After more than 15 years of service to the school district and over 60 years of operating the kennel and grooming service, he retired in the early 2000s at the age of 95.
Ray enjoyed the hobbies of gardening and working in his woods and cooking and was a life member of the Taconic Rod and Gun Club. When his wife was living, he enjoyed wintering with her in the Palm Beach area of Florida and traveling with her to many locations in the United States, his favorite being Hawaii. They also traveled extensively outside of the USA.
Ray is survived by his two sons and a daughter-in-law, Daniel and Karen Patton and David Patton, all of Eagle Mills, a granddaughter and her husband, Jessica and Harold Park, and his great grandson, Isaiah Park, all of Bloomfield, CT, and several cousins, nieces, nephews, as well as great and great, great nieces & nephews. In addition to his parents and late wife, he was predeceased by his grandson “Danny” R. Patton, brothers, Thomas Patton and Donald Patton and his sisters, Lois Geiser, Carolyn Pollock, and Dorothy Patton.
Relatives and friends are invited to call on Wednesday, June 7, 2023, from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at the Howard B. Tate and Son Funeral Home Inc., 2237 NY Route 7, located in Raymertown. A funeral service for Ray will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, June 8, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. with burial to follow in Eagle Mills Cemetery.

The Patton family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to Timothy Pollock and Barbara Pollock Galipeau for their love and daily care of every aspect of Ray’s routine including driving him to his doctor visits. Also, thank you to caregivers Tara Grugan, Penny Knauer Silliman, and Justine Hudson for their respectful and dignified care of Ray while he was under their watch. Because of the care of the previous people, he was able to live out his remaining time in his own home.
